Why doesn't Nintendo want you to plug a headset into the Switch?
It wouldn't matter because the online service literally cannot handle VOIP, hence why you need a phone in the mix to do it for you.
Because then you can't hear the game. But they know the only alternative (do it like the Wii U with a speaker) is not an effective solution since the speaker is right next to the system.
The only option is to use a third-party by using the phone to filter out the sounds of the game and only output voice.

According to the specs the jack also supports mic input, so you should be able to connect one of those 2in1 earbuds into it that you use for phones.

Xbone outputs game volume and chat at the same time though.

Because the online service only handles VOIP through the phone app. Probably because of power offload, since the system only has like 4 gigs of ram.
The Switch can take a headset, but it wouldn't do anything.

So that way the Switch XL is more appealing
Now with basic features!
>let's do voice chat bro
>20 minutes later you finally get all the shit plugged in and working
Bravo Nintendo....

Same reason battlefront didnt, there's a ton a kids playing online and they don't want kid's parents complaining people are shouting nigger online to their child playing battlefront or splatoon

EVERYTHING outputs game volume and chat at the same time.
Except the switch apparently.
Fuck even the DS did both at one point.

It woukd be a vector for breaking into the console and hacking it
