John does die in a shock ending, and unfortunately this caused some people to accidentally mistake RDR as a good game, when in fact it's a very bad game with a merely interesting story and shock ending.

You are best off just dropping the game right now, then breaking your disk and throwing it and the case in the trash. It's the best thing than RDR deserves.

OP here. Honestly i dont think that mexico was necessarily bad, but the player just starts to feel a repetitiveness in the game. The first ten hours of the game honestly had me pretty excited, but after that i started to realise that ive done the same shit over amd over and over again. I dont think john marston is that good of a character either

Personally I loved the game and thought Beechers hope was too short being my favorite part. Would have bought a DLC that extends it and fleshed out raising Jack and maybe adding fishing and trapping. People are correct saying missions can be boring/tedious riding horseback for every one but I enjoyed the pacing when you immerse yourself in the character and break up missions by playing Poker, blackjack, horseshoes ect. One of the few games I'll choose to walk slowly somewhere over running to take in the world and nodding at people passing.

Well that was the same for me OP. I was excited for this on release and bought it for my PS3 on release day.

I was enjoying it first, but my god is it repetitive. Marston was okay but I also don't get the fascination with him. I finished the game and thought the story was great. But it wasn't until the hype died down and after I had finished it and gotten over the story, that I realized it was actually a bad game. After the initial excitement, you are just doing the same things over and over again. Every mission felt very much the same and so much of it was filler. After I finished the main story I was gonna go finish all side missions, but the only one I bothered to do was killing Johns killer. At that point without the story driving it, I realized the gameplay and the game itself was just fucking garbage. So I dropped it and never looked back aside from playing a few online matches with friends, which also wasn't too good.

Honestly this games repuation online baffles me. It wasn't that good. And after thinking over the story after I finished it, even that wasn't that great. It was just your typical rockstar schlock. I tried Undead Nightmare on my friends PS3 a few months later and immediately I could tell it was just samey shit again but with zombies this time, and I couldn't stomach the thought of putting more hours into this trash. I went from really enjoying it to slowly, actually hating the game, the longer I played, the more I hated and by Undead Nightmare I was actively hating the game. The gameplay is just downright fucking trash.

Sadly every single GTA protag ever.
Except maybe Niko as you have a lot more choices on what to do at times, but not much.
John is at least somewhat badass about things and just wants to redeem himself, and there's more customization/personality/roleplaying for him out of missions than in the other games.

While I loved GTASA I'd have to say CJ is probably the biggest whippedbitch in the entire franchise. Even when he's at the very top he still listens to his worthless fucking druggie brother.

I thought Niko was the best protagonist personally, because most (like 90%) of the stuff he does is to further his goal rather than just doing jobs for people with no real aim. The only real exceptions are in the beginning when he's settling into America.
