8.5/10 at best, they pulled too much inspiration from Ubisoft sandboxes, shallow questlines/results, 0 weight for the narrative.

Its good, not great, will probably still win awards from Kotaku/Polygon crowd

Wind Waker looked way better. A lot more consistent. BotW has too many ugly rock textures.
>>
I don't really care too much about the game, but this current trend of low-contrast faded colour schemes in games is a bad design choice.

nobody is saying zelda looks bad visually (unless they're looking to argue regardless of topic)-- but graphics don't make or break a game anymore, every fucking game ever has 'good graphics' now. the graphics look amazing in Psychonauts VR too, doesn't mean the game itself is anything 'revolutionary'. neither is BOTW

Xenoblade X is honestly the better open world game. The environment has WAY more variety than BOTW, and doesn't re-use assets as much. And the sci-fi aesthetic is way better than BOTW's general fantasy aesthetic. XCX's art style reminds of 80s mecha anime.
Xenoblade X has a ton more enemy variety, too.

Sure, but I felt like this should have gone down a different route given the fact it’s this big open-world game where there are likely to be so many things for you to do after you beat Ganon. There’ll still be shrines to beat, there might still be the house to build up, etc.
This’ll be all the more true when the DLC comes out.

Just me but: Far Cry 3 (Varied wildlife encounters, endearing enemies, availability of varied approaches to problems), Rockstar games (Beautiful sandboxes, enticing exploration opportunities, strong writing), Just Cause (absolute freedom of movement, never looses its sense of fun).

certifiably insane if you think the bottom image looks better.

yes, the game looks misty/washed out when youre looking at something far away, just like real life. im sure they dialed it up a bit to give the illusion that there is greater distance than there really is.

in pic related, that hill and the house on it is actually fairly far away. look at the size of the tree up there and compare it to the one in the middle of the picture with all the people around it.

"fogginess" represents distance. notice the difference in intensity between the bottom of the pic and the top. and its not draw distance, youd see this town from across the entire map (at lower detail)

It's not handcrafted, it's asscrafted just like Just Cause... What a childish and stupid comparison.

In Zelda literally every little bump is where it is because someone wanted it there and exactly there. Same with Xenoblade and Xenoblade X. Which is also why there basically are no glitches at all and you can't get stuck in the environment.

No one said anything about "hardcore". But per defition when you die 300 times and there is no handholding at all, that's pretty hardcore and the opposite of what is considered casual.

>children can beat it
I beat Zelda 2 when I was a child and it's more hardcore and challenging than every game today. What is your point?

>The combination of: open world, dungeons and puzzles is retarded
99% of people disagree with you. Why do you even think so?

I'm playing on CEMU, and I think the game is amazing.

I wish there was more unique content though (special weapons, etc.), e.g. I cleansed that dragon in the mountains (really fucking cool sequence), was expected some one of a kind special dragon weapon, but nope, another spear that I've already found one of, aaaand it's already broken.

That, and the combat can be so ridiculously easy/easily exploitable at time-- those cyclopes are basically the easiest enemies in the game because you freeze them + arrow in the eye, rinse and repeat.

Also the shrines are fucking dogshite, would've taken half of them if it meant a proper dungeon or two.

The lack of anything of importance in the game was truly frustrating. The best parts of the game were seeing the Deku Tree, pulling the sword, and entering the other four locations for the first time. Otherwise all the NPCs feel hollow and boring. The game has a bigger than you feeling, which isnt bad, but a game like Zelda where non of the characters feel important either. Thats rough.

I think the most frustrating piece was the dungeons. I just wanted fun dungeon experiences that wernt done in 20 minutes.

Are you just pretending or do you really not understand it's a console warrior shitting on Zelda because it isn't on his console?

This has nothing to do with opinions and ideas. I wish we could actually properly criticize Zelda in this thread and talk about how good or bad the game was, talk about how fucking terrible those tree sidequests characters are and how Nintendo was not using all that space nearly as well as they could. But with cuckchan /v/ it's literally all about console warriors like this trying to make people (and mostly himself so he can sleep better) believe the game is shit. Bad. Not worth your time. a 5/10 at best.

Can I name a better game? Unironically, the Witcher 3. Every location, combat, graphics and musical score fit together like a nice wrapped package. The games not perfect either and english VAs are pretty awful. But in my opinion BotW fell really short in terms of dungeon design, NPCs and Story and combat that I couldnt justify calling it a more complete package than Witcher 3.

I think BotW climbing and exploring are a game changer, its pretty dynamic but exploring cant satisfy all my urges.

It really is amazing how perspective and distance can really change depending on the game you're in. It boggles my mind how you can, say, use your Slate to pinpoint an area that looks pretty close .. but on the map its 1/3rd of the map away.

BotW doesn't have the level of detail that maybe GTAIV had in some areas, but god damn is it amazing how big the world is and how little fucked up geography there is.

money, weapons, animals to hunt, ingredients, ride a deer for mononoke feels, enjoy the atmosphere. very handy stuff the first 100 hours.

i hate how quickly people always forget things. meat, money, mushrooms, weapons and so on were all useful things to find four many, many hours. it was only aorund the ~120 hours mark things became repetitive and useless, and that's only if you were not planning on fully upgrading all your favourite gear.

>>
>>378880774
No, im being serious, if you can point out the forest to me, what is its actual purpose other than to look pretty for you to take pictures and shit post online with?

All open world games suffer from this shit. BotW was pretty bad about not having things to do in areas other than collectathons.
>>
>>378880648
Right in the pic you can see a tower which has a treasure chest on top of it. There are also koroks as you've mentioned, and lots of wildlife/enemies to hunt there as well. Over the hill past the forest is a shrine that you have to navigate around some flowers in order to enter. If you go a little north of the player there is a hinox to fight, and let's not forget that the entire area is crawling with guardians.

There's plenty of fun shit to do, you just have to be willing to immerse yourself. Going into every area of the game with some solid objective like a dungeon/temple is the wrong way to play this game. You're on an adventure, into the unknown. Go over to the forest and find out for yourself what's in it.

You're better off saying you just have to have ADHD. This game has no goal and no structured experiences, which is why it's forgettable and one of the worst zelda games ever. Level design fucking sucks and the lack of content sucks. Nintendo released an unfinished product and was too lazy to go all the way through with making an actual open world game.

>>378881069
I get what your saying, and i love playing games like that. But the problem is that there was no substance in these areas. Theres a couple areas in BotW that are really great, like finding a cave behind a waterfall or seeing a giant ring of statues. Other areas feel shallow because theres nothing to wonder about them. Take Miyamoto's famous example for instance about exploring a cave. You wonder what it was used for, you wonder how deep it goes. When you have the same stuff appear in different forests, you lose those unique adventures because they feel way too similar. I can go into a forest by Kakariko village and think wow someone mustve hunted here for food and maybe they stumbled upon the great fairy fountain. But games have done this before. You dont hold other games to the same candle that you do with BotW and when BotW falls short on these, you overlook it and say its the fans fault for nor finding value in what they see.

Hypocrisy is everywhere on /v/ but you guys wonder why Nintendo and Zelda fans get bitched at the most. Its because of this.

But you could just climb a tall building and float to see the same thing. The game doesnt give you opportunities regularly to use these.

Shield sliding is a great example of a good mechanic because there are ton of opportunities. You simply made up a mechanic to give yourself a reason to do it.

>>
>>378881492
It's okay to do it in Zelda because it's the only game structured around this very idea. The other open world games all focus on the quest lines/side quests. The world is literally just a giant hub to walk between all the structured objectives. Zelda gives like 5 structured main objectives, and basically everything else is expected to just be found through exploration. Even most side quests don't give you map markers, just names of locations and a thing to do there. The example that got thrown around a lot before release was the white horse quest, where they literally just tell you there's a horse on some hill somewhere, but don't tell you where it is or how to get there.

Non-structure is literally the point of BotW, and the way the devs intended the world to be explored. Look at literally all the promotions they ever did. Every talk, every show, everything leading to release. It was all about picking a direction and getting yourself lost. The narrative was almost never brought up at all, unless someone else asked them about it.

>>378881760
You're right that some areas felt pretty empty or repetitive, I was especially let down by Hebra, because there was almost nothing to do there apart from a few shrines and 2 minigames. Like I said above, other games never base themselves on the world, just the quests they are in it. I played and enjoyed Witcher 3, I'm not shitting on it at all, but it is objectively a different experience. The two games attempt to do completely different things, and trying to play one of them like the other will only leave you disappointed. Both games are great when played the way they are intended, but when you try to force one to be more like the other, it falls apart. Also, keep in mind that a lot of the areas are similar to each other (several forests that are pretty similar) because you can go anywhere, and the devs wanted to make sure that no matter which direction you take, you get a good slice of what the world offers.
>>
>>378882205

I'm already sick of the DUNDUNNNNN-DUN DUNNNNNNNN piano theme for day time and I straight up mute the TV when I ride a horse because Zelda's lullaby is ridiculously overused.

>>
>>378883549

>>
>>378883312
were you not here for all the shitposting against the game? it was constant and uncalled for. i dont have the game or the switch, but after that whole episode, its hard to distinguish actual constructive criticism vs more shitposting and it drudges up the annoyance of those weeks before release.

and the old games were good, but when comparing any old games to current games the latter usually fall short in a lot of aspects
>>
>>378882764
What is your point? That's not even me posting it.

>>378882662
Increasing colors isn't a bullshot, every TV can do post-processing and those screenshits are still compressed jpgs with artefacts. The game looks way, way, way better in motion.

This is one of my own screenshots (99% the screenshots in those big pictures are my own, same with the other games), it's one of my favourites because the grass looks so clean and dense and it's 100% unaltered in the big picture.

And I don't care if it's Cemu or not. I'm not a console warrior. I care what the game is intended to look like and can(!) look like.
>>
>>378883834
I like it, but it really needed more variants sort of like how Ocarina of Time handled Hyrule Field's theme.
>>
>>378883849
Increasing colors(filter) is not the same as changing colors individually in an editing program.

The picture you used that I took is a bullshot, fact.
>>
>>378883509

Interaction with the 5 overworld enemies in the game, of which Guardians and Lynels are the only remotely difficult ones, with one-shots being the main source of difficulty in the game.

Or do you mean interaction between the open world environment and sidequests, of which there are none. Even one of the biggest sidequest related to one of the open world Dragons, unlocks a fucking shrine of all things.

There's barely any shit to do in BotW beisdes shrines and korok seeds. Le reddit webms involving the physics engine is not "content". Killing enemies in extremely convoluted ways shouldn't be fun past the first 5 times. Literally every common open world criticism applies to BotW and for some reason it's exempt from all these criticisms, the most often seen excuse being "it just works really good."

I literally mean there's more ways to interact with your surroundings in BoTW. You can chop down trees. You can pick up rocks. You can start fires. You can launch rocks at your foes, blow up barrels, shoot things down with arrows, etc. Moving in Xeno X felt really stilted to me, like I was just sliding around in the environment. For the most part I ran/drove past enemies and just or abuse the jumping mechanics to glide up slopes. Movement in BoTW felt like it has more weight, and the actual gameplay is travelling from point A to B feels much more involved to me. I'm not saying BoTW is objectively better, and XCX certainly has a much deeper combat system, but BoTW felt more dynamic to me. Personally I think when people say BoTW is the exact same as any other open world game they're being intentionally obtuse. Compare how you move around in Skyrim to BoTW, doesn't feel the same at all.

What? Why should that even matter?
Amazing things that are old are amazing. Amazing things that are new are amazing.
Old things that are amazing don't cease being amazing because new amazing things are born.
And new amazing things don't cease being amazing because amazing things existed before it.

Depending on the circumstances something can admittedly be rendered obsolete. But that's under specific circumstances. But even then the predecessor(s) typically still deserve praise. And no matter it shouldn't affect how they're amazing if they're amazing.

Are you even being serious?

BotW has elements of it's game design which are truly next level. You will never be able to choke back your childish tears long enough to accept it.

v/ will never get over Breath Of The Wild.

The ass sting will reverberate for the ages.

I will always remember the past 12 months on this board. Watching the same people who devoted so much time and energy to discrediting the switch and Breath Of The Wild - from spreading lies to cherry-picking screenshots - doing everything within their ability to make the console and the game seem bad.

Only to watch their jaws drop in absolute fucking horror as the Switch burst out the gate as a massive overnight success and BotW turned out to be, not just Game Of The Year, but one of the best games ever made.

Fucking glorious. I am still sore with laughter.
>>
>>378892381
Why would anyone be desperate to prove that botw is a very bad game? Anyone who isnt an autist already lis making fun of Nintendo fags like yourself thinking botw is an actual open world game instead of a garry mod featuring zelda. They gave you guys a literally tech demo and you thought it was an actual game.

Your point you were making to him collapsed right there.

Day 1 Switch owner here.

Not even fucking close. It's a great game, but you seriously need to delude yourself if you think this is true.
>>
>>378893171

Get out unbeliever, this is a high octane Nintendo shilling zone.
>>
>>378892990
Wasn't talking about those elements silly child. Nintendo made another masterpiece of software design. Oh boo hoo for you. Cry more for me.
>>
>>378893171
Yeah, BotW was awesome, but not THAT awesome.
>>378893252
Can you just die already?
>>
>>378893171

why buy the switch if you dont think its the best?
>>
>>378868507
They probably have the post processing anti-aliasing turned on which is pre-baked for 720p. Yes the game uses post-processing AA. It's just very subtle (and doesn't soften the image). Too subtle for digital foundry to even have noticed. Only reason people found out about it was because of CEMU
>>
>>378893171
All we have are opinions. But you cannot argue with historical fact my dear boy. And BotW has more perfect scores than any other game ever released.
>>
>>378893459

I'm on your side though. What shall we discuss about BotW now my bros? What's your favorite korok seed? Mine was at the top of a mountain.
>>
>>378893541

>all we have are opinions
>let me quote you some paid opinions
>>
>>378893516
Because humans are more complex than your shitposts can handle.
>>378893593
I thought the Korok on top of the Deku Tree was pretty cute, where it was presented as some great challenge and he just asks you to produce some drops.
>>
>>378870441
Most people would prefer the former image. It also uses more rendering power. The bottom image looks like a PS360 or DX9 game. You're probably just use to playing PS360 and DX9 games and prefer the inferior decade-old look. It's the same with people who complain about bloom and chromatic aberration. I get that some games over did them but many use them appropriate. You just have objectively shit tastes and probably also think degenerate modern art is actually art>>378871717

what
>>
>>378893717
>B-but paid reviews!
>Nintendo bias!
>Only got good scores because it's a Zelda game!

Everytime. 9/11 was an inside job. The moon landings were faked. Aliens built the pyramids.
>>
>>378893516

Because I didn't own a WiiU and BotW looked cool. Which it was
>>
>>378893903

I mean how are other people's opinions irrelevant, but those who get paid to give their opinions worth more to you?
>>
>>378894118
They're not irrelevant. They're entirely subjective. But when the overwhelming majority of people who play the game gush with praise, you have to concede that such unanimous positivity might hold some water.

But nah, you're right, it's probably just some massive conspiracy conducted by Nintendo to ensure the game got good reviews.
>>
>>378894118
I think it's a brilliant game.
>>
>can collect ore in the game
>cant use it to make weapons or armor

Explain this nintendobabies
>>
>>378894118
Reviews are about one notch above 4chan posts, mostly just because 50% of the people discussing a game are just shitposting and have never played it. That compares to about 75% of reviewers that actually play the game they're reviewing.
>>
>>378865986

It honestly is.
>>
>>378894559
You haven't played the game or even watched it if you think we have to.

botw is garys mod with a story attached to it
>>
>>378894675
That's cute.
>>
>>378894118
not him, but i think there were too many great reviews to have all been paid. if even a fraction of the perfect scores arent paid, then it obviously shows that its a great game. you also have to take into account a very vocal minority of contrarians and sour grapes autists that are omnipresent on /v/
>>
>>378893367
>masterpiece
>by removing all the elements that made the zelda series good
>>
>>378894610

Then the ones who do play their games have this level of skill:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3pQ0oO_cDE
>>
>>378894559
They ARE used for that very purpose as well as other purposes you fucking moron. You can upgrade your armour and have weapons built for you using them. AND there's an entire jewellery shop where you can have trinkets made giving you elemental abilities.
>>
>>378894772
It brought some back too dingus.
>>
>>378894772
you could have said the same when they switched to 3d from 2d. but most people realize that change and evolution of gameplay is a good thing. the way i see it, botw is the game they originally would have wanted to make if the hardware allowed for it in the original zelda game.
>>
>>378895209

BotW is already a prisoner of its current hardware. Just look at the potential it has when you see it running on Cemu
>>
>>378895318
The fact you can say that with a straight face is worrying. You can't use an illegal version of the game as an argument, dude.

I like how you don't even know why you hate it so you belittle him for daring to oppose you instead.
>>
>>378895318
what do you mean? less jaggies and a higher resolution? not nearly as important as the rest of the game. and thats coming from a guy thats currently dling the game for cemu, since i figure its been enough time that it should run decently enough for me to try it out
>>
>>378895425

Then just look at the (((legal))) version of the game instead. Constant pop in, stuttering framerate, lowres textures, archaic skybox, and a terrible inventory management.

The inventory complaint could easily be fixed, but it just really pisses me off having to scroll through that shit
>>

Kek another grafiks fag. Static screenshots are all that matter to you. Doesn't matter if a game plays like absolute shite. As long as it has realistic CoD doggos then it must be good right?
>>
>>378896010
Well, you got me there.
>>
>>378895908

It doesn't take a genius to make a decent open world game. Zelda has a lot of advantages that other people don't. Look at HZD. It's a pretty good game on its own merits, but it's pretty damn hard to sell people on it because no one knows who the fuck those people are.

BotW may be a reach for Nintendo development-wise, but they have the luxury of just putting in familiar names and faces to new environments and people will automatically assign them meaning because of its legacy. Having that gives Nintendo pretty much free reign to do anything.
>>
>>378896071

Framerate and inventory management are not grafix. Art style goes a lot farther than graphical performance. This game has a nice setting, but you don't get a lot out of it because of the subpar presentation. The colors do a good job of masking most of it, but still lacks the charm of Wind Waker.
>>
>>378896261
>It doesn't take a genius to make a decent open world game. Zelda has a lot of advantages that other people don't. Look at HZD.

So much horseshit. Look at how laughable Horizon is compared to BotW.

https://youtu.be/qEGWtyJAkO0
>>
>>378896261
Aren't the guys who made HZD the same who made the recent Killzone games? I imagine large areas are their ballpark.
>>378896426
^ Ignore this guy please.
>>
>>378896426

My argument with HZD was not that it's a better game. It's name recognition.

Read a post before posting something irrelevant.
>>

>>
>>378896392
Framerate is 100% graphics because a low frame rate determines the animation and smooth quality of the game experience retard.
