I'm okay at 2d fighters but Tekken 7 is going to be my first attempt to get good at a 3d fighter. This game is charming as fuck. Heihachi turns into a jolly old man as soon as he gets to kick some ass.

Right now I suck ass as it seems like none of my street fighter skills translate to T7. I'm fine with this as it seems like a rewarding fighting system to get better at. Can any old Tekken vets give me some tips on what I should be working on? I'm slowly making my way through the story on 3 star difficulty (and I'm scrubby enough to be losing plenty of fights).

Should I just power my way through story mode? Should I go to practice and try to learn some combos first? I haven't found a single launch move to turn into a combo yet. I'm mostly playing defense and waiting for an opening to either 112 them or hit with a jump kick. It's lame but it's working against low level ai.

Tekken has been flopping hard for years. Every new game gets hyped up, scores amazing, sells decent, then gets dropped by everyone after a few weeks.

Haven't followed this one at all since 3D fighters are ass. Hopefully they at least mix things up rather than just copy pasting all the same characters and moves with a few added on. Boring ass fucking game.

Anyone who's been exposed to more technical, more dynamic fighting games will quickly pass on tekken. Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, KoF and MK/Injustice have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" rage art moves are just laughably broken. Instead of a supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T7 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their rage move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, slow motion over and over again also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. But hey, the casual crowd will be pleased!

If you want something a little more "button-masher-friendly," tekken might be your cup of tea.... Key word, might.
