How the fuck do I git gud? My K/D is like .66 and I'm constantly shat on the more I play. I try to play cautiously; follow orders. I know kills aren't everything, but obviously you can't capture points if you are mostly dead.

I guess Commander and Snipers tend to get the most kills?

Rising storm, both games, are all about mastering both careful, methodic moves and aggressive, reckless ones.

You need both. You need to be able to tell when to flip your switch and go from cool and tactical to frantic and bloodthirsty and back when the situation changes. Picking up the signals and staying aware to know when is what's hard.

Know what the enemy is looking for, where he will try to go, how he will react to the situations you present and the decisions he will make.

this guy's got the right idea. i've been going with the frantic and bloodthirsty technique with the fucking stakeout riot gun, getting some kills at 60-80m with it even. just a weird sight picture, but you get down quick.

remember to play corners and angles- can't be looking straight at something thru a window often but safe and effective to look thru a fraction of it in the corner of a room. this goes for any sort of shooting.

the people i see get the most kills are typically standard riflemen- sometimes RPG lads if they're bonking down packed noob taxis, sometimes MG or rarely nutty shotgun or flamethrower guys. and the commander ofc

The game definitely doesn't require high refresh rates, because it's not really a twitchy, reaction based shooter. The higher the resolution, the better though. I have a 4k monitor and it's so much easier to see gooks from the distance now then it was with a 1080p monitor.

One of the biggest things is learning how to ID players. GIs run with rifles in two hands, VC with one. Uniforms are quite obviously different. One thing I suspect players don't really pay attention to is each individual weapons' audio (so you can tell the difference between AK or M16).

This. You need to know when it's a good idea to sit in a bush for a couple of minutes, when it's a good idea to charge someone and everything in between.

A lot of the game is about being methodical and tactical and positioning yourself right. Reacting quickly to things is harder than in a shooter like counterstrike as the movement is heavier and your aim can often be thrown off by suppression and such. At the same time, sometimes it's best to be aggressive and sneaky and push around the flanks, as you can catch entire squads with their backs turned.

Holy shit, this. So many people misuse smoke it's unreal. The Americans have a huge boon that gets horribly underused here: the Grenade Launcher. You can take smoke shells as an alternative ammo type and it lets you smoke off positions from a really far distance away. Very useful.

Honestly you should be checking your map all the time. I have it hotkeyed to X instead of M and I almost always have the tactical view on because it gives you that little compass at the bottom of the screen. It's incredibly useful and the number of people with terrible situational awareness is disgustingly high.

I'd also add to keep assault rifles in semi auto unless you're clearing trenches or something, because you'll be much more accurate and deadly. Also don't bother with bayonets 99% of the time.

And finally: PRESS Z! Spotting people is very useful for your team and a good way to get assists.

It's very strange isn't it? It's an extremely simple concept; blind the enemy. There's 2 ways to do this with smokes, throw your smoke on top of the enemy or throw it somewhere between you and the enemy so you can move to where you want to go.

Somehow though most retards playing this game think smokes should be used to blind your own team. How is anyone that stupid, let alone most people who play the game?

I've been able to turn entire matches around with good use of smoke grenades, they are extremely powerful tools when used correctly.

Because it warns your team about them and can often indicate there being more enemies around. You might not always be able to shoot the enemy, or you might just wound them or something. 99% of the time a kill made with a sniper rifle could have easily been made with a ak/m16. the average engagement range simply isn't far enough for the sniper rifles to compete.

a sniper can sit 200 meters back where his low rate of fire and ammo capacity isn't as detrimental but he wont get nearly as many targets of opportunity as a grunt would. the grunt can also effectively contest points.

snipers are memes and will always be more effective if the first thing they do after they spawn is scavenge an ak/m16 to become grunt with a pistol.

if you're an US SL you really shouldn't be taking anything other than grunt.

you can't take part in the fight the same way the people who spawn on you can. you're hiding most of the time and so the power or utility another class offers doesn't help you too much.

in the case of smokes you want as many as possible. this is better achieved by a non-SL pointman/radioman because he can constantly expose himself to throw his smokes. if he dies he spawns on his SL with more smokes to throw.

sniper isn't a terrible pick for US SL. it prevents other people from playing it which will almost certainly benefit your team and because it's not an effective class it wont be missed on the SL who gets to play hide and seek all game. should still get a hold of an m16/m60 so you can properly defend yourself.

I'm used to being a CoD/battlefield babby and running recklessly then dancing aroudn bullets and winning. Shit doesn't work in this game lol.

The best way I racked up kills and was able to defend/assault places was by regularly checking the map. Whenever the gook announcer says "Scout report in" or GIs say "Recon is in the air" thats the best time to open up your map and track where people are moving. I usually intercept, or position myself so they run right into my field of view.


Also, DONT neglect setting the range on your rifles. The default for the GI's grunt rifle is 250m which is really good by default. The default grunt AKs are set to fucking 100m, so my bullets used to always fall short of the target, set your AK to 200 or 300m and press X to make it single shot. Automatic gives you too much recoil and wastes too much ammo, most of the time after the first shot, the following 3 will recoil too hard.

Whenever you hear bullets whizz by or the enemy chit chatting, just hit the ground, always be sure to hug brush or debris. I can't tell you how many times the enemy literally ran over me because they thought I was dead when I was merely prone.

The problem is that no one wants to play radio, and very few radios play effectively, along with the commander actually utilizing them.

What should be done is have the commander and the two radio guys within the same squad, and spawn on the TL to actually promote coordination.

Furthermore, the smoke grenades for the radiomen are useless because him in the commander are going to be in the rear-ish or at least of medium depth. Best to have Squad Leaders issued smoke grenades again, because it's tough to rely on pubbies playing as pointman to toss them up.

Wrong. The best use of smoke in RO is to throw it on the enemy positions, so they can't see out of their defences, allowing general freedom of movement for your team. I've been doing this for years, this is the best tactic.

However, if the aforementioned can't be done, then obviously creating a wall of smoke between you and the enemy is the next best possible option. It's 6am here in Ausfag land, i'll be lucky if I can find a single full server for Squad over the course of an entire weekend and I sure as fuck can't during the week, yet I can jump into ARMA, RS2, R02/RS etc right now and find over a dozen full servers to play on...at 6am.

The size of an active player base makes a HUGE difference.

Call of Duty is more popular than RS 2, does it mean it's better?

We're hating Rising Storm 2, simply because, unlike you, we actually played Tripwire games when they were still only mods like Red Orchestra Ostfront 41-45.

Back then, Red Orchestra Ostfront 41-45 was a piece of gold. It was realistic, had good maps, a good balance, and was full of community mods and maps.

Then Tripwire decided to fuck things up, and made Red Orchestra 2... which had new mechanics, a cover system, a level system with locked guns, poor maps, repetitive gameplay, a bad engine, etc. Then, they decided to fuck things up even more, and came up with Rising Storm a.k.a the best sleep aid I've ever tried.

Now, since they were running low on cash after the failed Killing Floor 2 release... they decided to create a new game with a unique theme. No need for a breakthrough game, since they would have the monopoly of the Vietnam war games. All they have to do is release an o.k game and watch the cash flowing, because Vietnam fans have no other choice in 2017. That's a really nice marketing strategy there.

So that's why the game is repetitive, is bugged as hell, has like 4 maps, runs on an old engine and still has bad performance.

Now, you have Squad, a game made by people that used to work on a FREE game because they loved it. They are passionate about their game, and you can see it with every new patch they release. Obviously, the game genre is not popular to people that usually love easy casual games like Call of Duty, Rising Storm 2, Halo, Far Cry Primal, etc. Just reading the Squad manual takes AT LEAST two weeks, because it's a military simulation.

I recommend Squad, because it's like ArmA... but way more fun, and less boring. It's the perfect mix between military simulation and FUN... which was the case of Red Orchestra Ostfront 41-45 back in the day.

Anyways, casuals are gonna casual. Like always!

i played ROOST for years before RO2 came out and it was just as repetitive as it's sequel, a few good mods don't really take away from the fact that both games are not for more than a few hours of play each time. Unless you're one of those literally autistic roleplayers from the DH servers who sermon everyone about their boring mod, it's just not meant to be a timesink.

What would be great is that if you scrolled while crouched, it changed your stance so you could move a little further up or a bit further down. That way you'd be able to aim over walls like that with your rifle still rested and not standing up and giving a much larger profile to shoot at. No this won't fix things.
The reason Commanders stay behind is because they don't want any downtime where they aren't an arm's length from a radio. The current system has it they are at the front with a radioman, and they die, they spawn right next to a radio. Then the radioman can run back and pickup the commander and bring him back to the frontline.
If you remove these spawn-radios, then the best strategy will be for the commander and a single radioman to sit in spawn and you have the same problem, except it's boring for both of them.

Really, the current system is fine. People just haven't realized any of the above ie. they can be a proper commander AND shoot gooks/GIs at the front. Another problem is that radiomen don't realize that they get more points killing people if they are right next to the commander (Protected commander) AND they get points when the commander uses their radio. Once people see that they can maximize points with the commnader-radioman team up, they should do it naturally.

You can try it on Steam, and play up to 2 hours before refunding it. Which is more than enough time to test all the Vietnam-era weapons. The gameplay is really repetitive and there are around 4 maps at the moment.

They rushed the game to release it before the upcoming E3, so the performance is bad, even if it's using the Unreal Engine 3.

Just pass on it.
