Arcades were only impressive when they offered something that looked a shit ton nicer than what you can buy at home and the best you could get were downgraded arcade ports.

Also once you're an adult with money you find there's a million better things to spend your money on than an overpriced game of something and getting together to play vidya on a couch is nicer than standing behind a machine.

tfw we have a big arcade where I live and I'd absolutely kill to work there

Little reward for a stupid amount of money.

1 Line OPs are barneyfag threads

>gameplay is king
>arcade games were only good for their graphics

Which is it?
>>
Arcades didn't fail in America because of lack of interest or being unable to generate revenue, they failed because they became culturally associated with drug dealing, vandalism and crime which made them completely uninsurable.

It's why you only see Barcades anymore; it's cheaper to insure a bar and you can throw all the fourteen year old niglets who break the machines out on their ass.

>tfw you finally find an arcade with a dual Ridge Racer machine and not only are the screens fucked up, but it has slap shifters instead of the six speed H shifter
>and the neo geo only has fucking metal slug 4 instead of 2, X or 3
>>
>>378844458
there isn't much to them any more. You only have ddr games, those fps with a gun as controler, and touch screen app games. Most of the good ones have been replaced.
>>
because burgerland doesn't have rhythm games or fightan unless they import cabinets from the moon
>>
>>378844458
No arcades around me so I'd have to go out of my way to get to one on top of spilling money to play them.
>>
Internet, once it became affordable it spelled doom for arcades. I've never seen an entire business go away so fast.

>arcade place on 4th floor, check it out to kill time

>Pay money for a short amount of gameplay
>When you can actually own the game and play it as much as you want

Arcades have always been huge scams.
>>
>>378846032
If there was a thriving community of players and frequents, along with tournaments, I would pay to play at arcades and spar any day of the week over playing online with lag and without the better social experience.
>>
>>378846229
In areas with enough players to make this feasible, arcades do still thrive. I think arcades are making a small comeback in general, at least in the US, with Round 1 rapidly multiplying and being majorly successful.
>>
are you trainerjiseb?
>>
I play arcade games all the time just not in the arcades because that's a waste of money and a hassle.
>>
People still does it. They're now called mobile games.

Hell, some of the mobile games are made into arcade cabinets, like Subway Surfers.
>>
>>378848345
Not the same at all design wise, only jewery wise
>>
>>378848492
I would argue that design wise they're the same, some of them anyway. Usually the ones with coins.

They're simple games made for simpletons who will spend their money for coins. That's literally like arcade games. Obviously I'm talking about arcade games that produce tickets and shit.
>>
i like to go to Funspot in NH once a year.

i think arcades thrived because they provided experiences not available at home. due to diminishing returns, home consoles have caught up and now provide the "same" experience. pretty much started in the ps2/GC/xbox era
