Why don't people play Arcade games anymore?

because we have systems just as or more powerful at home

Arcades were only impressive when they offered something that looked a shit ton nicer than what you can buy at home and the best you could get were downgraded arcade ports.

Also once you're an adult with money you find there's a million better things to spend your money on than an overpriced game of something and getting together to play vidya on a couch is nicer than standing behind a machine.

Arcades didn't fail in America because of lack of interest or being unable to generate revenue, they failed because they became culturally associated with drug dealing, vandalism and crime which made them completely uninsurable.

It's why you only see Barcades anymore; it's cheaper to insure a bar and you can throw all the fourteen year old niglets who break the machines out on their ass.

No arcades around me so I'd have to go out of my way to get to one on top of spilling money to play them.

Internet, once it became affordable it spelled doom for arcades. I've never seen an entire business go away so fast.

In areas with enough players to make this feasible, arcades do still thrive. I think arcades are making a small comeback in general, at least in the US, with Round 1 rapidly multiplying and being majorly successful.

I play arcade games all the time just not in the arcades because that's a waste of money and a hassle.

People still does it. They're now called mobile games.

Hell, some of the mobile games are made into arcade cabinets, like Subway Surfers.

i think arcades thrived because they provided experiences not available at home. due to diminishing returns, home consoles have caught up and now provide the "same" experience. pretty much started in the ps2/GC/xbox era
