best card game online so if you're into then this is the way to go
>>
The game was better during the Closed Beta.

Everything has been nerfed to the ground and cards have gotten stupidly verbose and confusing.

What's more, I have no motivation to play now because the cards I pulled from my kegs coming into the Open Beta were complete fucking garbage. I didn't get a single gold card. The cards I pulled in the Closed Beta were INCREDIBLE and the cards I got right now are complete dogshit and the cards in general are dogshit right now.
>>
I mostly win my game with my relatively unmodified nilfggard deck tossing dead cows on the enemy.

You do find the occasional whales through with bullshit gold cards that is basically a win because you can't pull the same shit to them and their counters is a waste of space if your opponent isn't a heavy payer.

I'm the guy you're replying to, I enjoyed my fog deck during the Closed Beta.

I haven't bothered to check whether this two card combo is still just as potent or not.

Makes me feel smarter than playing HS, which is basically a RNG shitshow at the moment.

But fuck me are those cards expensive. Is it just me, or does crafting in Gwent use up waaaay more dust than in HS?

It's almost the same in terms of crafting
Milling 1 epic in HS allows you to craft 1 rare
Milling 1 gold in Gwent gets you enough to craft 1 silver

the game's pretty generous -if- you're willing to put in the time grinding the daily rewards each day. you can craft literally any top tier deck within 2 weeks if you're getting the first two tiers of daily rewards each day, on top of the level 1-10 rewards and the ranked rewards.

the problem is that getting to 20 wins is pretty brutal with poverty decks, especially right now with the "win turn 1 at all costs" meta that's developed because of faggot nilfgaard and skellige decks that will frequently 2-0 you if you aren't playing a meta deck. you can get those round wins each day but it might take you twice as long as it would playing a meta deck.

if you've got your foot in the door from dropping some money or playing closed beta to craft and play a top tier deck, it's great. the game's genuinely difficult to play and you can bluff and outplay opponents in a way that's not possible with hearthstone. I've had some actual thrilling moments playing the game that just remind me of playing poker with money on the line. A lot of the emotional moments that happen in Hearthstone are either a. being mad at how shit my draws are or b. being happy at how shit my opponent's draws are.
>>
>>378843778
Maybe it felt different to me because I got a lot of dust on the side through arena in HS.
I really hope they come up with some way to make arena work in Gwent, but I have no idea how it would.
>>
>>378843789
oh yeah, plus the actual card art is nice and the fact that I'm incentivized to keep and use premium cards is great. plus there's a shitload more effort put into them than in Hearthstone's golden cards, what with full 3d animations and sounds/music being attached.

but I'll quit the slav dick sucking for a moment to say this: the UI is pretty fucking flawed in a half dozen ways, and the fact that it's ANOTHER card game made in the unity engine means we'll be lucky to see things like the shitty mulligan UI, the "OPPONENT IS DRAWING A CARD', not being able to craft cards while making a deck, etc etc being fixed within a year or two.
>>
Where the fuck are the trophies
>>
I like the general idea of rounds, adds the element of bluffing and mind games, but drawing only 2 cards in round 2 and one at round 3 is stingy as fuck. I feel like round 1 is almost entirely skill based, round 2 sometimes, and 3 is always just dumping whatever came in any desirable order.

>>
>>378844056
Totally disagree.
Its all about figuring out how many combo-pieces you want and can commit each round.
You cant say one round is more skill based than another.
>>
>>378844056
>>378844129
The problem with the way draw works is it really kills any decks using more than 25 cards. Why even bother with the 40 cap.

>>
>>378844264
there's some nilfgaard decks that'll occasionally run like, 28 cards for milling shenanigans. Ultimately it just comes down to the simple fact that the smallest possible deck size is always optimal for consistency and playing your strongest possible cards.
>>
>>378844129
>You cant say one round is more skill based than another.
In terms of choices ofcouse I can. In R1 you get 11 cards and 3 mulligans to structure your hand and flexibly respond to opponent's actions. In R2 you get get 2 cards and 1 mulligan, if you're not set to win at this point there's probably not much room to impove the situation. Also, the stingy nature of subsequent rounds forces the players to put a lot of recycle bin cards to draw and shuffle through graveyards instead of playing newly drawn creatures.
>>
>>378844414
But not every deck plays that way?
My R1 mostly consists of hero card and then maybe playing 1 buff up unit and thats it, unless the enemy does something very strange.
>>
>>378844271
Hearthstone is fantastic experiment for getting more by offering less.
>>
>>378845012
i'm pretty sure that's actually what it is. like bobby kotick found out they were making some card game side project and said "do not devote any extra resources to this, I want to see how much money we can make by putting in as little effort as possible"

and since they're pulling in literally billions of dollars at this point when they've got maybe 20 staff working full-time on the game and a few dozen more part-time (artists, QA) I'd say it's wildly successful. it might actually be one of the most profitable games ever made.

>>378844271
Blizzard never chased high quality graphics, their games were meant to run on all possible toasters and smartphones. Hearthstone's is more polished and fluid, Gwent is really clunky in comparison
>>
>>378841368
i've gotten frustrated with open beta. CDPR is really jewish with keg value. most of the time you get like 25 scraps out of one keg. i got 58 or so from closed beta rewards and i thought that gave me a little headstart but i still have to use vanilla geralt and triss in every deck. might as well had no rewards at all. also spell scoiatel is really boring to play against and many games come down to wether you have enough clear skies to clear all the weather or not.
i did enjoy it otherwise and if the rates for decent cards were better i'd probably continue playing it.

I think it can co-exist with Heartstone unlike Elder Scrolls Legends because it's actually going for something different considering the entire thing is a score-based competition. I'm waiting to see what they'll do with the story which is supposed to be a full fledged campaigns or something.

They changed it too much from how it is in witcher, I hope they give us a classic mode
>>
>>378854760
I hope not, because that's basically what it was in beta. Every match boiled down to using weather cards/commander's horn in the last turn and blowing out your opponent. These changes are for the better.

Originally really liked it but after the Monster / weather rework I cant play it anymore.

>he unironically played wheather decks
Glad to be rid of you
>>
>>378855382
It's not about actually playing a weather deck, but the fact that this is a digital card game and the devs would just completely rework / change the core of an entire faction instead of trying to add in counters which makes me not want to get more invested into it.
>>
>>378854453
>Debuff Morkvarg
Why would you? Just lock him.
>>
>>378855642
Weather cards required every other deck to take steps for countering them.
They were way overpowered and it is stupid to design every other card around them.
They are still very annoying in the current version, your basically forced to run 1 or 2 of them to compete.
>>
Fuck Nilfgaard, game's alright after that. People keep saying it's the most F2P friendly CCG out there, but I disagree. Shadowverse is much more generous.

In a real TCG that's the entire point of a sideboard.
If they wanted to take a step away from the garbage that is quick play hearthstone esc matches and for it to have an actual real competitive scene they'd actually introduce it.
Not really sure how it would work in with how gwents rounds work tho.
