It'll be a sequel to the reboot and you'll learn to accept it. The game itself did a shit-ton of sales even if the movie flopped, and probably got a lot of new people into the franchise. They're not going to turn around and release another main series sequel and alienate all of them.

There's generally a few stock weapons, and a few more inventive ones.

One of the big problems with the PS3 games was that they capped your ammo so low, and the enemy health so high that you had to swap through weapons and use less than ideal or completely unsuited weapons until the game spawned an ammo pickup.

That said, the PS3 weapons were also pretty usually boring shit, and exactly the thing you're accusing the first three games of being.

The reboot removed a few fun weapons, and installed a few meme weapons, neutered the story, and decided we needed Nefarious off the bat... ruining his backstory in addition to making the game and movie's story worse.

I feel like the overwhelming majority of the reboot's problems stemmed from being effectively a game adaption of the movie. Not only did that handicap plot, dialogue, characterization and so on, but they probably also wanted to play it safe and throw in the most familiar stuff. If there's a new game it won't have a movie holding it back, which means they can probably stretch out and improve the writing, the amount of content and the weapons.

Ratchet has been done by the North Carolina team for nearly 6 years
Spiderman is being done by the main team in California

they always have multiple projects going on at the same time,
and anything involving R&C would much faster than a big new ip like Spiderman due to already having the game engine and plenty of assets to reuse

Ratchet gets contracted to escort humanitarian aid to refugees trapped in a besieged city in the middle of a brutal civil war while the besiegers try to starve the city out. In the process of doing so he discovers that the aid agency is just a front organisation for the side of the war that is trapped in the besieged city, and the aid is actually going towards the soldiers in the city as well as the refugees and being used to prolong the siege.

Ratchet then has to choose between continuing to deliver aid in an effort to save the refugees as best he can but also as a side effect prolonging the battle; or stop delivering aid completely and let the siege end at the cost of famine in the city in the meantime.

If you choose the former the besiegers bring up heavy artillery and start flattening the place because pressure elsewhere on their lines means that they won't be able to maintain the siege. If you choose the latter the besieged burn the city and its inhabitants rather than capitulate in a "glorious" last stand/mass suicide.

Affected by this inevitable tragedy, Ratchet wonders at his ability to actually be a hero and make a difference.
