They all are, that's the point.

Far Cry at its core is about being dropped into a world where there are no rules except survival of the fittest. The main villains of each game are then by definition the people who have adapted best to the insane new rules and become paragons of survival. They are also friendly as hell because for the most part, they don't see themselves as villains but as survivors, same as the player, which lets you both identify and relate to one another. And again, the entire point is that had you not come to the fucked up land in the first place, none of this would have happened. The only reason they even try to kill you is you insist on actively trying to kill them, and even then, a couple save your life.

Too bad the story sucks, the gameplay sucks, the guns suck, the progression sucks, the AI sucks, and even the options menu sucks.

They also butcher their story big time, every single time. The overall story of Farcry 4 was great, and the secret quick ending is incredibly good, but it's told so poorly and everything else is garbage. Farcry 3 story was also much better in an earlier iteration, when Jason died at the start and became the vessel of everything Vaas aspired to be, and the game ended with you playing as Vaas, rulling over the island and fighting his boss' henchmen and the retarded rebels. Very in line with Farcry 2 too, rather than the retarded dudebro simulator it later became.

Well that was the plan at some point: Jason has great friends, he's wealthy, has a nice GF, becomes a warrior, fills up his tattoo, kills his bitch sister, kills his boss, kills the rapist... everything Vaas aspires to. Jason hunting them down and eventually killing Vaas was to be the representation of Vaas overcoming his fears and actually getting his shit together. Which is why Vaas can't kill Jason, and cue Alice in Wonderland quotes and weird hallucinatory sequences. Story was scrapped, but many elements of it remained in the game.

The whole Far Cry theme starting with 2 basically is "shit is fucked up but you're about to become even more fucked up than that". In 2, you pretty much become the Jackal and end up helping him, in 3, half the game was supposed to take place in Vaas' head until you become Vaas, in 4, Pagan Min was your best bro all along.

So I guess Far Cry 5 ends with you becoming a christian and securing the existence of your people and a future for white children. If Ubisoft doesn't fuck up the story, they'll fuck up the gameplay, AI, and everything else anyway.

The portrayal definitely makes the writing seem better than it actually was. The character sold the dialogue incredibly well and came off as extremely charismatic and even comedic at times. I was amazed at how good Min was... Took me right back to Legacy of Kain-tier shit.

Yeah. Pagan Min made that game for me. I picked up Far Cry 3 after beating 4, hoping for more of the same. Needless to say, I was beyond disappointed. Looking at Far Cry 5's location and villains, I just can't imagine it not being a cringefest of a VA trying to do a hillbilly accent and talking about God nonstop. I live in Kansas. If I want to experience that, I could just knock on my next door neighbor's house, or walk down the street to a church made out of corrugated metal.
