It's awful. He reduced her attack and speed to boost her defense, which isn't what she needs. Now she doubles less, gets doubled by more, and can't finish off more enemies.

And Renewal pairs with Reciprocal Aid, not Ardent Sacrifice. Wasting a turn to heal only 10 HP is awful, the only use for Ardent Sacrifice is on units that use it to get into Desperation 3 health. Any Rally or movement skill would do more good, and any Breaker or Drag Back would also work better than Renewal.

Xander has next to no competition on red cav memes, and actually fills a niche with outrageous defense + huge burst damage on bonfire/ignis + invincible on fortress tiles + quick riposte spamming bonfire from 2x2 attacks + countering way more prevalent threats with his DC (green mages are way more common than red)

Camus becomes an OK attacking lance unit with still terrible res, when you could've just been using Reinhardt, Olwen, or Ursula as a blue.

I'd still disagree. He's just a subpar lancer then. Xander will survive way longer and deal with way harder enemies, and he can bait them safely instead of having to retardedly suicide rush to actually attack them.

Like for real, Xander with literally no skills whatsoever (A, B, C, S, special, no buffs active) will survive a +Atk LaD3 or Fury3 Nino with +3 Atk/+4 Spd/+2 Res off of Eirika and then one shot her in return. Throw in even Atk+1 as his only skill and he does the same to +Atk Fury 3 Julia.

He'll also laugh off Takumi and other reds with that higher def and an easy quick riposte. And Hector's super common too. Xander's going to get rid of Hector better than Camus will deal with even Effie.

Eh, I wouldn't say for sure that red is more useful than blue.
Green mages aren't really much more common than red mages, with only Julia, some Nino, and the occasional niche Cecilia showing up. Blue are still, by and large, the most prominent mage color in the game, and Camus can at least pick up blue book breaker to deal with them.
You are correct though, in that blue is by far the most oversaturated cavalry color, and Camus has some series competition for that niche from units that are more useful than him.

This map was pretty easy. I used Nino to blow up Camus easily and TA Olivia stopped the axes in their tracks.

You can attack Camus with a ranged from spot A. Cavalry unit shave no problem getting there without getting aggro first, and infantry can do that with a dancer's help.

You can get them out of danger by having a unit with a movement assist in spot B -- namely, Reposition, Draw Back, or even possibly Swap if the unit can survive on that tile.

Triangle on Julia is amazing, since any high tier red mage kicks her ass. Julia is not a speedy unit, so using the +def -hp is the better choice, you do not want -att at all. I would recommend giving her quick reposte 2/3. Lancebreaker is pretty ehh, but quick reposte makes her an amazing enemy phase unit, able to destroy Linde and the horse siblings with 0 problems. Plus you'll have a 4 charge special at the ready to use on your turn.

Camus was pretty easy with Thundercock, Camilla, Olivia and Kagero. Camilla stood up to attacks from Camus and one of the green axes, Thundercock took out the red mage and held up to a green axe as well, then Kagero took care of the healer and cleaned up the rest.

Similar to what I did, but I had blarblade ursula nuke Camus, and Xander run up in front of her and tank the rest of them. All he had to do was survive a single round, which was easy with a hone buff.
