Let's set the memes aside for now, and just talk about what E.Y.E. is, and what it isn't.
E.Y.E. is a game with a lot of personality and open-ended thinking, being the conceptual point of 'You can climb thisTyrell Corporation pyramidmountain'. If you want to straight gun, you can gun. If you want to psychic everything, you can get to that point. If you want to hack everyone, you can. If you just feel like goomba stomping your opponents, get those Cyberlegs Lvl. 9 ready. Along with its charm and personality, it has some of the most solid firing in a Source-engine title, even if getting used to the toggled sights is a little bit of a stretch at first. Don't expect to never need a gun, or at least a sword (or big hammer).
E.Y.E. isn't a game for people who like a polished, A-Z experience, and can't stand the opposite. E.Y.E. doesn't have letters in the alphabet, it has sides to a polyhedron, with more questions left unanswered than not through gameplay. There is a mod that fixes the French-to-English that we got -- even though it's pretty serviceable now OOB -- but you'll still probably be thrown for a loop in what you see and read. E.Y.E.can beis grind-heavy. E.Y.E. has a lot of systems that won't make a lot of sense even after you read the wiki. E.Y.E. puts a huge amount of onus on the player to discover and explore, often with little guidance. If that isn't for you, E.Y.E. isn't for you.
E.Y.E. is, at its core, dumb fun inspired by the cyberpunk and worn future works of the past.
E.Y.E. is, at its midsection, a deep romp through the human psyche and a series of questions about how cybernetics will begin invoking Clarke's Third Law.
E.Y.E. is, under its skin, a fun shooter with multiple methods of approach.
E.Y.E. is, on the surface, a hot mess slapped together by some French dudes in a small apartment.

E.Y.E. is, at its core, dumb fun inspired by the cyberpunk and worn future works of the past.

was interesting on how you broke it down.
Are you involved in literature or engineering?
>>378836691
I move furniture.
Your legs are okay.
You'll gain much brozouf.
Oh wow, an EYE thread. Maybe I can shamelessly repost what I wrote last time ?
A few words regarding the translation.
After having looked through both the french and english text files, I can say the following :
Most of the time, the english text is an accurate translation from the french text, even though the wording is often convoluted.
People often say that the translation is bad because the dialogue contradicts itself, or gives you false information. Well, the same is true in french, and it is pretty much a part of the game/plot.
Keep in mind that the french text isn't exactly high literature, especially when adressing looters or feds; in fact, the translation is often much more flowery and sophisticated than the original.
At times, there is also some confusion because "Vous" and "Tu" are both translated as "you" in english, but nothing major.
That being said, there are a few weird cases, where the english text says way more, or way less, or something entirely different, than the french text :
For example, Mentor saying
>Va semer la mort !
meaning "go sow death among them!" becomes
>Go now, and purify these lands with their sacrificial blood!
After the purge mission, the envoy of the secreta say
>Salutations!
which is a pretty formal way of saying "Greetings !", and this becomes
>Well hello there !
Lastly, after Huan provokes you, you answer with
>Le seul accident qui me fasse peur c’est que ma tête tombe dans de l’acide et que je me retrouve avec ta sale gueule de paumé.
The literal translation is "The only accident I'm afraid of would be to fall in a vat of acid, because then I'd have your ugly moron face." However, the ingame translation... Well, I'm sure you can guess.
cont.
>>378837143
The feeling I get from this is that at times, the translation is inconsistent (while keeping in mind that the dialogue itself is inconsistent for story reasons), as if it was made by several people who didn't talk to each other; or perhaps this was done intentionally. I wouldn't put it past StreumOn to say "this dialogue is boring, put in some vague metaphors", but this does result in some dialogues that are very far from the original (in form, but not in meaning). Also, I think it's safe to assume that the translation was done "in house", by whomever of the devs happened to be best at english.
Finally, there exists an unofficial patch which claims to "improve" the english translation, but it butchers both the atmosphere and the plot by trying to "correct" anything that's ambiguous.
>It is true I killed my mentor, yet I am not his murderer"
is changed into
>Mentor, I had no choice...
which is just stupid and removes most of the games charm.
>>378834991
>There is a mod that fixes the French-to-English that we got
no
it's a rewrite by a faggot jian that didn't understand shit but thought he did
the translation is largely accurate, the original french script is written the same way
>I killed my mentor, but I am not his murderer
>Mentor, I had no choice
>you gain brouzouf
>kill confirmed
never recommend this garbage as if it "fixes" anything ever again
>>378837007

This game seems like it's one more interesting to talk about than it is it actually play. It's been in my library for years but I've hardly played more than 30 minutes of it.
>>378837387
Calm your fucking puddle-jumpers. I even mentioned that it's fine out-of-the-box, and even then, that suggestion is just a holdover from when the vanilla translation wasn't serviceable.

>>378837884

>>378824410
An ok game.
It's not as good or as seemingly replayable as /v/ makes it out to be.
Only a few weapons are remotely worthwhile after you read the half way point in the game, and most of the extra features like hacking and stuff are more annoyances which get pushed aside because it's easier just to shoot stuff
story doesn't really make any sense. Not sure why people think that's a good thing.
it's creative, but there's lots of dialogue and annoying mission objectives which you can easily get stuck on
permanent wounds is a shitty feature as well
>>378837929
Ah yes, the person is telling me I'm nice because I'm telling them how it is, that's how every one responds.
>>378837884
What's this, a herald of Nurgle ?
It has a nice gun feeling, good maps, and a really great atmosphere. The only thing that I didn't like, was that the game is really really complex. Just the menu gave me a headache. Then you have to read some discussion using some kind of group names or races, that you have no clue what the hell is going on.
It's like this...
"The Zorman italo-cyborg commander of the Zorgen decided to attack the sumino-archaich group Xernen Mercenaries at the gate of the Zenokk city."
Multiply this by 10, and you get a sample of what a discussion or objective context in E.Y.E looks like.
>>378838025
>story doesn't really make any sense.
It's not supposed to, the entire revelation is that you are just experiencing the delusions of a mind that has been literally broken from guilt.
You are in the dreams of a person who has lost their mind. That in itself is what makes it unique and interesting, it is exploring the depths of the human psyche.
>>378838026
It's like I'm really reading the dialogue file for EYE!
>>378837553
nah I still find it pretty fun after 70 hours. If it was any other game I wouldn't be stretching so much to find other builds and approaches. I have no idea some people have played over 1000 hours of it though.
Is there a good way to get this game running on coop? I'd really like to play it with my roommate and we've tried a couple times over the years with no luck and I think it's a fun and ridiculous game that I'm sure is only better with friends.
Is there a trick to getting the ball rolling, like some hosting application we should use, or am I just retarded?
