1. they always mean the full initial price of the console, 400$ in the PS4 case
2. they ALWAYS tell you to go for super deals or used parts, even suggesting to wait months for the best deal to happen, but this is also the least meme part, a MOBO+CPU combo which would normally go over 300$ if when bought new and separately can be "easily" found for much cheaper when bought used but guaranteed(i5 750 cpu + P7H55 mobo, around 320$ on pcpartpicker, found it at 156$ a couple of years ago when i built a small media center for my parents)
3. most of the time these builds require you to borrow coolers and fans from previous build

as a matter of fact, if i bought brand new 4Gb ram, HDD, and a GTX 760 for the media center build at the time i did it, it would have been very close to 400$, maybe 450$, and i'm pretty sure that would have beaten the PS4 hands down

PC's are obviously better but you do have to pay more. Anyone saying you can build a PC for the same cost as a PS4 is memeing or buying the most garbage parts possible.

Get a job, it's not hard to save up 2000$ for a good PC that you'll use for 5 years with 1 GPU upgrade in the middle.

Even that isn't necessary usually. I've had my 760 since it came out and still get playable performance (1080p 50-60fps high or ultra settings with .ini tweaks) in almost any new games. Going to be year 5 in a few months, and I'll probably get a 1080 or whatever other hot new meme is out then.

But yeah anyone suggesting to build a cheap pc that is only on par with consoles is a retard. You build a pc to surpass consoles, while having more longevity if you future-proof decently enough.

Setting aside the fact that you absolutely don't need a $2000 PC to play games even at max settings, not everyone can save as much as you think even having a job.

I make roughly $1050/month, of which $600-650 go away for rent an bills, $300 for food(roughly $10 a day for 2 meals, either if you cook yourself or get a pizza/whatever), leaving me with $100-150 for various other expenses or emergencies.
Even if I could save up those $150-100 each month, it would still require 1-1.5 years to save $2000

My rent, roughly $400/month, is one of the lowest in my city, and 150 for electricity + phone bills is on the low side too considering the average for that $200.
A couple living on their own is expected to spend $30-35 daily on food for 2 meals a day + brakfast when buying big brands food.
I live alone and buy food at discount stores spending around 7.5-10$ a day.

I bought mine prebuilt in 2007 for $500. Its an Athlon 960 quad core. Got a GTX760 4 years ago or so. I can still play modern games without any issues. Pajeets are butt blasted that PC is truly the better option.

$150 for a electric is a ton to me. I'm on my pc and have shit turned on 24/7 and only pay $50/month. Also if you're cooking for yourself only, $10/day seems a bit much. You can make $10 go a long way towards produce and such. Making bulk meals to eat through the weak is cheap, unless you really need the variety. Though it's not like I'm eating slop, a big pot of good chili is like $25 and can last me a week without getting hungry at all.
