I have some guesses. You could be mad about elements of the new design, like how his weapon is activated in a non-combat scene, or how his facial structure now portrays a human-like frown. Or perhaps you're mad that they're redoing it at all, considering that it will have inevitable inconsistencies with the aesthetic of the rest of the game.

Never gave a shit about RTS, so I don't have any stake in this discussion, but I will say that the new design pleases me in shallow ways.

It's both of these, for me. Protoss looked truly alien in the original Starcraft, SC2 just made them another generic human-looking alien species with no mouth.
