A little thought into Nintendo's setup would lead you to understand that headset is connected to both only in undocked mode. In docked mode, your Switch is outputting to larger TV speakers or even external speakers that would have no trouble outdoing your headphones output power. In undocked mode, you'll be out and about so it makes sense to be able to input both the voice chat and the Switch into your headphones so as not to disturb the rest of the world.

Amiibos GUARANTEE DLC for nearly ALL games, Single player or not. And Nintendo pumps out actual DLC all the time nowadays. All the way back to Pokemon days where they sold 2 nearly identical versions with a dozen exclusive pokemon on each because they knew kids would pay for both and THEN buy the 3rd complete version. This model came back for the last mainline FireEmblem game, selling 2 versions that should be 1 game AND with DLC on top. The latest Zelda also has some of the most shit DLC out there and so does the 3DS FireEmblem remake.

Nintendo has DLC and shitty practices everywehre, fuck off. I also wouldn't say their waggle gimmicks helped the industry any. They just pushed microsoft to shoot themselves in the foot with Kinect and Sony wasted some time with Move. Nothing GOOD came out of waggle

You know when you click the HOME button on Xbone/PS4 and you can use a plethora of applications to multitask? Like create or join parties to chat with friends, and then whitin the party invite them to your game. Or watch them playing a game with instant streaming. Or even PLAY their game remotely. Also, Discord doesn't join the game audio with chat audio, so that's unrelated to OP's image. You can already do that without discrod or that 3rd party cable. You can use the phone to speak with people on the Switch, just the game audio would be blasting from the TV or the Switch in portable mode, it wouldn't be in your headset like the chat audio.

Using Discord is the same as using Nintendo's phone app. It solves nothing. The point is chat + game in the same audio channel, with volume controls for both (where in-game audio lowers while someone's speaking), just like the other systems do.

I know it's a very, very sad realisation, but the phone app IS Switch's chat capabilities, and will probably continue to be the hub for anything Nintendo online for their future consoles too.

There are certain quality-of-life (or "ease of use", whichever bunch of words you want to use) functions that only the Nintendo phone app will have with Switch games. You can't say it's a simple Discord/Skype clone of something. Because it's through the app that you will form in-game parties and can communicate with people without creating 2nd or 3rd accounts on other programs to invite them there.
A Party system is mostly used for chat, but it's also used as a lobby or pseudo game-invite system. You simply can't do the same with Discord or Skype and the majority of people you'll face or cooperate with online on the Switch will not care about joining you on those services, they'll just want to use the official Nintendo Switch app they are already using.

The whole image in the OP is dedicated to voice+chat through 1 channel. What you're talking about is different.
What you're talking about is one of many options for the Xbone and PS4, but is the ONLY option on Switch (unless of course you spend more to get that converter).

If you want to hear the game through the headset while talking to people you can't (natively) on the Switch. you can ONLY hear the game through the TV's or Switch's speaker and ONLY hear the voice audio from the headset that is connected to your phone. You can NOT hear both the voice and game audio through your TV, or the same but through the headset. They MUST be seperate, no other choices or options are available natively.

If you're OK with the only option that is offered for you then fine. you're still wasting your phone's charge though

this is the major problem with this whole app business. The disconnect between game console and the chat function itself is so convuluted that this feature is going to get tired fast.

If the Vita can do it, the Switch can do it.

Nintendo doesn't want to, though. They want to put as many thigns as possible on the phone as use mobile as their main hub. Somewhere down the line that app will be somehow used as their themepark guide or some shit like that. Future consoles will also use the app and every Nintendo system will be cross-compatible via that app (or some PR bullshit excuse like that Nintendo will use)

Just like the Miiverse got axed despite being a very popular featture on the WiiU because Nintendo would rather have the people that post there post on Twitter and other social media instead for free marketing. Why have a talented artstyle draw Squid porn on Miiverse for a public that already owns the console and game when that artist could be doing Nintendo's marketing on twitter to a wider public?
