Could a Half Life 3 game ever live up to 1+2?
They'd have to change the gameplay a lot for it to be impressive. Both Half Life 1 and 2 did something noteworthy when they were released. What could HL3 do? Would people really be satisfied with an ordinary shooter? Would they have to add skill-points, drop-in multiplayer, crafting, branching story-lines, survival-aspects, etc, or would a standard game be enough?

I'm not sure if you ever watched Freeman's Mind, the Youtube series, but they finally got FM2 to start in HL2. Some of the highest comments included:

I replayed it with a friend through the Synergy mod since it was his first time playing it.

It has its genuine fun moments, like Ravenholm, the bridge, and the entirety of the beach drive, but I will admit it's got a lot of pointless filler, along with other frustrating levels.

I still think a full playthrough is a must for anyone, though.

The beach drive is the lowest point for me honestly, I enjoyed the boat more and I never understood why it caught so much hate. HL2 is for sure not a perfect game, and HL1 is for sure better, but 2 doesn't deserve a lot of the shit it catches.

A lot of people just shit on HL2 because it was called this "revolutionary FPS" when it released, and it really doesn't deserve that title. That and the SMG feels like trash and you end up using it more than any other gun in the game due to its plentiful ammo.
