Color Splash had 6 Big Paint Stars so there were 6 "chapters" and Roy was placed right before Bowser, which by the way, Black Bowser's Castle is only a few rooms similar to Sticker Star, it's still better than than Sticker Star but it's still similar so it barely counts as a full "chapter".

You're close: Roy is the one who shares a chapter with Bowser. The Koopalings guard the Paint Star that corresponds with their wand. Roy has a Black Wand and appears in Black Bowser's Castle since there is no black Big Paint Star (so he functions like Kamek did in Bowser's Sky Castle).

For fuck's sake, TTYD has an entire murder mystery chapter copied from a 5 minute murder mystery subplot that was part of a larger, more substantive chapter from the first game. PM64 didn't stretch the murder mystery bullshit to an absurd length like TTYD did.

I find that to be a stretch. They both are horror themed but Gusty Gulch is the bigger portion of Chapter 3 in PM64 and that's not spooky at all and the Boo Mansion has a different tone to it. Twilight Town has a eerie dusk thing going on with NPCs being cursed/transformed into pigs and Doopliss stealing Mario's identity & partners while redeeming Vivian. It has a enough there to make it different I feel. The biggest connection is Creepy Steeple having a similar color palette & Boos but you have Swoopers there also and it's only a few rooms with the focus no on Boos.

I found it similar to Tubba Blubba because the villain is untouchable and has an item you have to find to circumvent it. The main difference is you have to meet Doopliss before he steals your body while they tell you multiple times to avoid fighting Tubba.

I never thought about those points, I guess those are a big similarity. I still find the whole stealing Mario's identity & cursing the town to be different from Bow making a deal with Mario to get rid of a big blue invincible Clubba keeping his heart in the windmill different for a Star Spirit. Also there's a big focus on Tubba Blubba being invincible as opposed to Doopliss which finding out his true name is the focus, so plot wise it's surely different. Mechanically speaking I agree it's samey though, although you go about getting these key items differently.
