As things are now, there's two kongs: mumble kong, which is just Old kong plus neo kong and play MWO and sometimes other games, and there's Discord kong which just has the all the old kong who used to hype SC and are now just bitter vets who play overwatch and other games of the sort. Some kong hangs out in only one of the two, and some both. We still get old blood back occasionally, especially lately seeing how MWO is getting new tech.

There's a system where light mechs move first in a phase and heavier mechs move last so I guess it's somewhat similar to initiative.

Initiative is the way it is because going first is a good thing: You get to see what your opponent did and act accordingly.
Crit-kills are by no means the only way to kill a mech, and both make scattershot weapons good at finishing (but not at starting, since they tend to have trouble breaching armor) and reward mechs that are less "greedy" with delicate or volatile components.

I don't think you understand that RTS means "real-time strategy." Turn-based =! Real-time. This is a turn-based tactical game where you designate what mechs you want to take into combat beforehand, mechs that you have customized with pilots you've hired to use them. There is also an overworld map that may be similar to X-COM's where you fly around the galaxy taking contracts as a mercenary company. Again, turn-based tactical game like JA2 or X-COM, but with mechs, and a management overworld system like X-COM.

Look at the old centurion, for instance.
