Jaheira. I'm not even kidding. Her romance is well written, fits the narrative, fits the character and continues over two games. It's so well written, that at first you think it's normal character development.

People will claim that she jumps your cock the moment her husband dies, but they're idiots. In game terms, the romance starts very soon. But the romance doesn't reach the romance part until several events later. In game time, that's likely going to be weeks. In fact, the whole thing is spaced so long, that some people don't have time to finish it before they finish the game and run out of quests.

Her romance deals with several important themes. First with her loss of Khalid. Then when you've helped her through the pain as a longtime traveling companion and friend of Khalid, Jaheira feels guilt about developing romantic feelings for you. After that issue is solved, she is being drawn into an intrigue and has to choose whom she trusts more. After that, finally, the romance can be considered concluded.

You can see the good writing in the last issue. The intrigue also happens when you don't date her. The quest works just as well with Jaheira the friend or group member. That means the romance is a result of you adventuring together and not the narrative reason she is traveling with you.

That means Jahreia is, romance or not, written as a person.
