is this shit real

It's okay because it's Nintendo
>>
>>378791984
voice chat isn't needed anyway. I played the first one without it no problem

Yes.

because the switch doesn't natively support voicechat
>>
I never ever use voicechat in any game so whatever
>>
>>378792465
No reason other than the game itself not supporting voice chat. The headphone jack on the Switch has mic support.
>>
>>378792465
the nintendo online service, which people will soon have to pay actual money for, doesn't support voice chat. You need to download an app onto your phone to do that, yes, even though there are already a million other apps that do the same thing for free.
>>
>>378792465
Because they built it in cheapest way possible to save money.
>>
>kids are too poor to own a phone
>this will keep the squeakers out

We should be thanking Nintendo for being this innovative.

The decision to not include native voice chat took a lot of courage.
>>
>>378792680
What kind of third world country do you live in? A lot of kids have phones and tablets
>>
>>378791984
Buying it day 1. I like how Nintendo is switching it up for I can still talk to my gamer friends even when I'm away from the switch.
>>
>>378792641
Isn't voice chat just peer to peer like most games are now?
>>
The sad thing is I'm excited about the "play appointments" feature of the phone app.

Back in the day my friends and I would sit on our asses and play online/local games all day every day. These days I work all day, cook dinner and walk the dog at night. My friends do the same and we never play games together anymore. Making scheduled appointments sounds nice.
>>
>>378791984
Is that yet another accessory nintenbros are going to need to buy to get a basic experience they should be getting out of the box?
>>
>>378792834
Yeah it is. The app is just a nintendo branded skype.
>>
>>378792923
Nah, just use the headset that comes with your phone. The accessory is only to combine your phone audio with the switch audio.
>>
>>378792183
when will you fucking people learn that it isn't about whether it's "necessary" or not, but rather it being extremely obtuse and anti consumer of them not to include it
it is the INDUSTRY STANDARD to have built in voice chat for consoles and yet Nintendo managed to somehow fuck that up even though the switch is the NEWEST console in the market to be released
it's actually inexcusable

>but I don't want to hear 12 year olds on the mic
>but I don't use voice chat
>but (insert random coping device here)

fuck off, you cannot defend Nintendo here
I love the switch and Im going to eat up ARMS just like the rest of all these other nintendobabies, but you can't honestly defend Nintendo here
>>
>>378793092
Just use your phone headset and put your phone in your pocket. Wow so hard.

>>
>>378793051
Isn't the accessory just a splitter/mixer with independent volume controls and mic on/off?
>>
>>378793297
That text is not about the cable. It's telling you where the volume control for the voice line is. The red text above it has a volume control for the game audio line.
>>
>>378793297

le ebin updoot xD
>>
>>378793331
It's unclear because like >>378793297 said it looks like the voice is coming from the switch itself, maybe all the phone is doing is transmitting your mic audio
>>
>>378792785
nice reference
>>
>>378793297
Seems like they have it plugged in the wrong way, which is weird. But it likely doesn't really matter which one you have plugged into which; it's just an audio line combiner.
>>
>>378793297
That's a dial for adjusting the volume of voices from the phone. There's another one right there for adjusting the volume of the game audio from the Switch, too.

If you're paying for online the option should be there anyway, but not like this.

This is just dumb.
>>
>>378793659
why are you defending this?
The switch should support voice chat natively. Why the fuck would I think it's a good thing to have to cart around a dongle with my console just for voice chat, and having to have twice as many cables going everywhere.
>>
>>378793714
I'll have fun carrying my iPhone and iPhone headset like I always do.

Have fun being mad and staying mad.
>>
also

FRIENDCODES are required so you don't hear some random guy swearing.
>>
>>378793616
everybody who ever plays with friends on consoles uses the party chat function, why the fuck would you want your voice chat on a separate device? That's just retarded.
>>

>I'll have fun carrying my iPhone and iPhone headset like I always do.

To further my point, you can even see that the left (Switch) cable lacks the third ring on the plug which is used for mic audio.

However, this does not necessarily mean that the Switch cannot do voice chat on its own. The headphone jack on the Switch does have mic support.
>>
>>378793971
So multiple people can use separate voice chat while playing split screen online using the same switch.
>>
>>378793676
I'm still blown away at how this is real.
>>
>>378794048
Everyone looks at me funny when I cram my iphone and switch into my skinny jeans.
>>
>>378793971
No, not ever. The headsets compatible with native console chat are fucking garbage, the sound is muffled, everything about native voice chat is inferior to using a third party program from your laptop or phone.
>>
>>378794127
jesus christ, the nintendo defense force is fucking retarded.
>>
>>378794127
First of all, which tiny fucking subset of people plays splitscreen but wants to use the in game voice chat?
Secondly, that would mean the switch owner would need to carry around multiple splitters with their switch.

So you're telling me nintendo considered this tiny one in a million usecase to be more important than a person being able to just plug a headset straight into the switch and have it just work?

This whole thing is pretty much quality vs convenience.
>>
>>378794275
>The headsets compatible with native console chat are fucking garbage
you mean any 3.5mm or USB headset?
PS4 and xbone support pretty much any audio device you can throw at it.
>>
>>378794460
They wouldn't need splitters at all. The splitter is only used to combine game audio with phone audio. 2 players could just use the switch's or tv's speakers for game audio like they always do and use their personal phone headsets they already own with their phones they already own. I'm not sure why you're getting so angry.

>>378793603
I'm glad I didn't bought shit, dodged a bullet here.
>>
>>378792183
You do know that being pro-consumer is about the option being a convenience, right?

Just because it doesn't suit your needs doesn't mean others shouldn't want the option, let alone to be handled in a such way that implements extra steps connecting a damn headset to their system.

Worse still, imagine anyone who has the latest iPhone trying to use this.
>>
When Nintendo mentioned that their chat system would use cell phones in some manner, I never imagined that there would be so many wires involved. It's bad enough having to use a phone app for voice support, but having an extra accessory to connect them together with fucking wires is the worst setup I could possibly imagine. What the fuck am I supposed to do if I want to online chat when the system is docked? Do I need wires running across the floor? What a dumb idea. They would have been better off to do nothing at all.
>>
>>378795205
If the online was free it would just be another

>Haha nintendo is so behind the times lol

situation, but now it just looks greedy AND incompetent.
>>
>>378795493
When the system is docked, you will only get game audio through the tv and voice through the headset.

So, you have to choose one or the other...

Discord is primarily used for PC gaming, PSN and XBL have competent group voice chat built in to the systems.
>>
>>378795493
No, you don't need wires. You can use the phone as voice chat without any connection to the Switch. This device is only for mixing the phone's voice audio feed and the Switch's game audio feed into one set of headphones.

I wish people had better arguments than "it should just be there."

Why spent time to implement something when not many will use it? Just to have it? WoW put in-game voice years ago and I never met anyone who used it, instead opting for Ventrilo, Skype or now Discord.

Sure, this set-up is more inconvient but I'd rather have this and never deal with it than have the Dev waste time and resources putting out bugfixes and patches to keep trying to make it better.

Dude, you're comparing PC gaming with consolepleb.

Of course nobody uses WoW's native voice chat. There are better options and players can just install them and use them easily, because PC.

You can't do that on consoles. Remember, you should be able to listen both your teammates' voices and the game audio at the same time. Using Mumble or Discord through a cellphone while playing consoles is retarded.

>>

yes they do.
I don't know about xbone, but ps4 has a communities app where you can schedule events months in advance, specify a game and invite specific players (or make it publicly discover-able), and then when the time comes PSN automatically generates a party and invites every player. If you have the playstation app on your phone then you get a phone notification too.

This can all be done either directly on ps4 or through the app on your phone

As someone who overthought xbox live friendships, that feature was really cool. I was in a lot of Forza clubs and it was really nice not bothering someone who was doing single player or playing another game. Just message them for an invite or join their game and off you went. It was mostly nice because typing and sending messages on the 360 was kind of clunky, so being able to intuitively skip a middle man was great

In docked mode, you can just use the phone on its own or plug a headset directly into it. You only need a cable in the Switch if you want the game audio in a headphone feed.

>>
>>378793878
The entire concept is stupid. You're going to just use discord anyways.

I haven't touched console native voice chat since Xbox classic. It was garbage then, and it's only gotten worse over the years. Anyone that is basing their decision to play games around the availability to listen to children scream whatever fresh insults they found on Reddit at you doesn't deserve videogames.

The switch is a console that seemingly focuses on being physically near the people you're playing with, what with the whole portability aspect of it. The voice chat seems like an afterthought that was a prerequisite for third parties.
I can see EA saying that they won't put FIFA on the switch if there's no voice support natively, so they had to create work arounds.

console voice chat is exactly the same quality and just more convenient than discord, and the consoles support any 3.5mm or USB headsets so voice quality isn't a problem. Console OS level party chat can be set to either totally over-ride in game lobby chat, or it can mix them together if you want. So you can choose to totally block out randoms by default if you choose.

All this can be done through the 3.5mm jack on the controller itself and doesn't need a nearby laptop or pc with discord running.

Anyone defending this or the need of a smartphone app for voice chat is a delusional retarded fanboy.

There is no excuse. Both Wii and WiiU had voice chat games without the need for a smartphone app. The PC, Dreamcast, PS2, XboxHueg, 360, PS3, PS4, Xbone, all implemented voice chat without the need for a smartphone app or device beyond a microphone.

Not only does the switch require a separate device and app to voice chat with friends, but you now require a 3rd device if vou want game audio and chat audio to come through the same headphones, which is a necessity if you're playing online and don't want to piss off your team mates with TV audio echoing through your mic. Don't forget you need to use Switch compatible Nintendo approved headphones kids! Every other console (WiiU included) allows you to take any old pair of headphones with a mic, plug them directly into your controller and use them no problem. This is counter-intuitive, inconvenient laziness on Nintendos part.

I get it, you're an early Switch adopter and you love your new toy and you feel the need to justify your purchase as much as you can. Can't have people sayin the Switch is less than perfect, no sir. But seriously, anyone defending this is either a poorfag fanboy who can only afford one console and therefore feels some sort of allegiance to that brand (like most fanboys), or a literal shill. There is 100% no defending this in the mind of a rational human being.

>>
>>378804490

There was probably some board meeting and they discussed the features of the switch. Voice chat came up and some old faggot said something like "Why not just have them use their phones? Kids like using their phones"
>>
>>378804490
They don't want to put more apps on the Switch because of their fear of hackers fucking up their consoles like all the others.
Like all Japanese companies, they're backwards as fuck.

Sony had to employ westerners to design the PS4 and it shows, the damn thing has been out 3 years and still no meaningful hacks whatsoever.
>>
>>378804490
Surely it would have been less effort for them to just do it on the system. With an app they had to develop a system for the game to tell the app which people to connect with and stuff

What probably happened is that Nintendo planned some extensive phone/switch tie in app and due to time or budget constraints that got cut down into the aborted discord clone switch owners are getting

>>378807475
The different is, the Switch is primarily a home console competing with other home consoles that already have these features. The fucking Wii U had Netflix.
>>
>>378807604
And that means the Switch must just be too weak to run Netflix or a web browser?
>>
>>378807604
The Switch is a tablet. A tablet can run Netflix. A 3DS can run Netflix. The goddamn Wii can run Netflix.

A tablet that is running on guts more powerful than the Vita by technicality because A57s are a few steps ahead and technically Tegra X1 is still the most powerful mobile GPU on the market as of now.

Literally the only thing keeping Netflix off the system is either an install base or Nintendo just doesn't deem it practical to use the Switch for a media player.
