Simple: It's incredibly difficult to write a quality horror story that centers itself around a video game. Most of them follow the Ben Drowned formula, and it's nigh impossible to make the act of playing a game scary, unsettling, etc.

It's pretty obviously not a ps1 game, maybe early ps2 but the ps1 couldn't handle those grafix, and if it was truly just an unfinished game then it wouldn't have such a massive hidden area only accesible via some code in the main menu, unfinished means they only made the very first level and that's it.

The real frustrating part of Petscop is that Paul stopped talking or explaining any of the shit he's doing, which kills the Saint-style letsplay vibe he had going for a while.

This is an assumption based on only one of them, and I don't see how you can get the same reaction from something small on a table and a giant red inverted square pyramid. If that's the real explanation then at the very least the first one is a contrivance for the sake of creating a fake mystery.

Well, I'm just assuming. Considering that the other more telling one was the one on the table, it makes sense, too. Consider how his reaction to that was trying to justify it after a moment of stunned silence, saying that it could just be a random thing in any room. The only thing I could imagine him having a reaction like that to would be some object that's familiar to him in some way, and I can't really imagine him having a reaction like that to anything else that could be censored, as if it was gore or something really fucked up his reaction would've probably been more along his reaction to whatever the pyramid was.

One time I awoke to see something that looked like a man with a head of a wolf staring at me from the foot of my bed. He didn't do anything, but every instinct I had was screaming bloody murder that I needed to get the fuck out of there.

It actually happened when I was incredibly sleep deprived during college finals years ago, something like four days with almost no sleep, and according the wikipedia, sleep deprivation is one of the most common triggers for sleep paralysis. So yeah, guess that was it.

Still a very bizarre experience. The memory of what that thing looked like is burned into my brain. There was a palpable feeling that I was somehow offending this being by looking at it and my life was in jeopardy because of it, like I could just feel the malevolence of the thing's presence, and me pointing at it was some important way of saving. It was a very crystallizing experience, the feeling of catching the eye of something beyond me, like being in a dark ocean and an ancient leviathan god decides it wants you dead personally.
