Eh hard to say. Skullgirls and MK9 are good as well. MK9 is great overall but the gameplay is a bit slow and floaty.

there's a switch for biased drops that's on by default. So playing matches with Flash is more likely to drop you Flash related stuff
but if you open boxes then you get random gear/shaders/abilities
random junk that just happens to be for the two characters you will never play so you end up with four rows of Fate epics

they're used to buy shaders, which can be found as drops
and to buy premier skins like Vixen and Jay, which can not be dropped ever
they're also used to change the appearance of normal gear or insta-level a character to 20 which is stupid and unnecessary
if you play through the story and level your account to 60 you can earn enough for maybe two premier skins

I don't really know. I think a higher level only changes the level of the gear dropped but you can just use refresh tokens to reroll gear to 20 when you get there
and you get tokens for selling normal gear, I have tons

By and large I enjoyed MKX's roster but I was also disappointed in it. Mostly I dislike that there were so many old characters who felt like they were just taking up space while a few of the good 3D-era characters showed up in the story (Fujin, Li Mei, Sareena) but weren't playable.

No as far as I am aware the actual appearances of items are not tied to level, you can get amazing looking gear at a low level. The stats are tied to your level but that doesn't really matter since you can upgrade them.

The white and gold shader is called "God" and is only usable if you purchase the "ultimate" edition or whatever it's called. I think that edition also comes with a season pass for DLC characters but I'm not sure.
