Yukari is a really strong case for showing why P3's cast is still my favorite. I think somewhere along the way, people forgot that characters are supposed to resemble people in real life. Don't get me wrong, I really like P4's cast as well, but there were a lot of cases where I think they were a little too buddy-buddy. Aside from the one moment where Yosuke and Naoto are seriously considering offing Namatame, they're all pretty even keeled and never challenge each other meaningfully. They have a great, lovable dynamic, but the fact that P3's cast has that AND has the capacity to fight among themselves is what solidified them as being more realistic imo. Yukari is the best example of that. She's got some deep family issues, and is clingy in the most pathetic way possible, to the point of making rash and dangerous decisions. She can be really selfish at times too. But throughout all of that is a feeling of deep connection and forgiveness. She learns from her mistakes, gradually learning to not take people simply at face value and to really know people as people. Yukari is incredibly imperfect, but so is a lot of the rest of P3's cast, and that's why I love them so much.

Thats because different themes. P3 was about tragedy (thats why so many personas were greek) and people closing themselves off from other people because the fear of getting hurt. S.links was you, as a messiah, reaching out to others and connecting them. Persona 4 as a theme is escapism and mirroring yourself to animu ideals. Kind of like EVA. All characters are stock anime archetypes, their shadows show how those archetypes arent realistic and how they actually warp the person that tries to adopt an anime archetype. The narrative the story tries to push is that if you relax and dont try to conform too much to the animu archetypes you have a happier and closer life with others. s.links show the struggles of people trying to turn back to being honest with themselves towards the world rather than upholding their animu archetype persona. The only issue I have with this is that they stick too close to their archetypical behaviour even though they are supposed to reject that. But it is obvious the writer thinks of that differently

Even being someone who's ragged on P5's writing before, I only half-agree with you. I feel. like P5 had a lot of really good ideas for characters, and a few of them, namely, Futaba, Makoto, and Sae, were close to getting there. I always felt like their character arcs ended just a little bit too early and never got a satisfying-enough resolution. Futaba was the closest since she got an entire dungeon dedicated to her, and we got to see her relationship with Sojiro develop quite nicely, but the one-sided rivalry with Morgana never felt like it got resolved properly.

Makoto frustrates me, because she's SO CLOSE to being a great character. We see her near the beginning of the game, and we see her emotionally shut down as the game progresses. I was always waiting for the big moment where she and Sae end up in a huge fight, it culminates in her boss fight (which Makoto should've been mandatory for) and the tearful breakdown and later patching up. We sort of get the breakdown, but it feels more directed at Sae, at how she's changed due to the case, and not enough on how it's made her feel, some kind of, "I'm so afraid...I'm so afraid of losing you." Then working in the real world to make up for that. Sae gets better, but it doesn't seem like Makoto had a whole lot to do with it; hell, it feels more thanks to Joker for revealing what a bastard Akechi's been.

The game is hard until you understand that you have to cheese things and fuse intelligently. For example 1 boss can oneshot your entire team and unless youre really overleveled you are mince. However you can fuse abbadon and he learns immune to hack, slash and pierce. So then you can just use that persona and the boss cannot touch you, since it only uses physical attacks. Since fusing is weird in how it works if you dont read up on it, and you have to know which personas get you the stuff you need, it can seem that you have to grind to win. So I suggest just picking easy difficulty and looking up boss strategies. Most early boss stages have weaknesses and you cna just keep them stunned forever if you never use an allout attack, for all later bosses there is a persona that makes them pushovers.

P4 is SOL but it also has a lot of fanservice (in the sense of putting jokes fans can appreciate, not lewd stuff) that you miss out on. Especially golden has that. But after the first few episodes I didnt like it anymore

The game isnt hard, its just gimmicky in that it demands you to learn its fusing system. Early bosses have weaknesses to certain types, that knocks them down so you can just keep them permanently knocked down. Later bosses have no weaknesses but have a very limited movepool. So you can fuse personas that are immune to that specific type and just auto them. Just play the game and google "how to defeat level X boss persona 3" if you get stuck. On easy it should be a lot easier anyway.

personally I thought the combat was a chore until NG+ where I learnt how the fusion system worked and went full autism in making a bunch of maxed out personas with immunity to pretty much everything

Nights on FES were boring, until you get Mutatsu and Tanaka at night. I don't even recall what others you do at night. The only thing left is raising some stats
The main problem were the ones during day and that's the majority of them. P5 balanced that, P3 didn't. P3 was the worse with those ones on weekends or the Sun guy at Sunday that was the same day as "Maya".

its called planning. And yeah evenings were for upgrading social stats.So what. Its not like later you can just go to bed early. Its part of the game that pretty much all slinks were during the day, and some of them colliding, it made you pick who you wanted to pursue, made NG+ more attractive to see other slinks and plan better. If they allowed more slinks in the night they probably would just bump up the amount of affection points you needed from people to balance it all out

P4's grills were all really close. There was no clear choice in waifu between the top 3, they were all great. It was always a really fucking hard decision to choose between Rise, Naoto, and Chie.

I went with Naoto because her VDay scene was tied with Chie's for the best, but her Christmas scene was better. Also her more feminine voice is 10/10 comfy.

I didn't like any of the non-party grills that much except for Yumi, who I just wanted to hug, not date.
