i think comparing it to "if /v/ where around when OoT was released" is a bit unfair considering that botw is literally another game re-skinned with Zelda on top.

I part of the problem comes from /v/ sustaining a near year-long hate campaign against BotW and the Switch, from cherry-picking screenshots to spreading outright lies, doing everything possible to make the game and the console seem bad.

/v/ seems to have an irrational psychotic hatred of Nintendo, which is bizarre when you consider that this board is populated by edgy, hipster, too-kool-for-school contrarians. You'd think of all places, this board would champion the one company in vidya who continually tries to innovate and always produces exceptional software each generation. But no, instead they actually WANT Nintendo to fail for some reason.

Anyway, once the Switch burst out the gates as a massive overnight success and BotW turned out to be, not just Game Of The Year, but one of the greatest games ever made, you could audibly hear their fucking jaws drop in absolute horror. No, you just have a victim complex. Nintendo always has and always will be one of the most beloved companies on the board. Nothing else can derail the board quite like Smash Bros, Zelda or Pokemon can, Pokemon was so big on /v/ that moot ended up making a brand new board just for it. Every poll on /v/ leans heavily in a pro-Nintendo direction, most stickies are for Nintendo related events and announcements, most people on /v/ own a 3DS, Wii U and/or Switch. The only thing that upset me about TLoU was how overrated it was. By no means do I think it's a bad game, although I played it once on Survivor Mode because I used a friend's PS4 so that might have skewed my views on it, but I thought it was a cool experience.
