Xillia was rushed because of the anniversary of Tales of titles, but Zestiria had specific date of relase. What they fucked up with Zestiria they started to make changes in whole story, by cutting characters, putting new ones, which made the whole game mess. Because they were busy with story they forgot to fix AA, Bloom effects, etc. It's just different story, both of those games.

They did a survey a while back and it had an extensive section about spin-off games and what genre they could be

They've said: "Today we will show you our two new main characters, heroines" - They've shown Sorey and Alisha. They talked a lot about them, about the story, their interactions, etc. Before and after release of the game, they stopped saying Alisha was main character, nor she was important at all. It's your call, but I am not interested in further talking about Zestiria, which is the worst Tales of game out there. PS3 version is just complete garbage.

Berseria is fine. It fixed most of the issues Zestiria suffered from and has arguably the best main cast in the whole franchise. The combat system is most likely going to feel meh because it only really comes into its own when you learn to freely switch between characters and chain Mystic Artes, but you can still have fun as long as you crank up the difficulty and someone other than Velvet, since she just facefucks everything with no effort.
It also suffers from a fucking stupid equipment system, mediocre sound track and horribly bland/boring open world and dungeons, but I still think it's the best Tales game since Vesperia.

I double-battled my way all the way to the temple and I wanted to sudoku at times. I got in the habit of dangerous encounters back in the mine where you meet Kurogane just because the EXP / grade is so nice for the effort and it's more fun than wiping the floor with a group of 6 skunks or something stupid, but fuck. The crazy part is Bandai Namco has enough influence that they could easily go out and get just about anybody to work on a soundtrack for them but they just use Sakuraba cause it's Japan and they like familiar names and have that expectation that they'll keep seeing them regardless of whether they've been phoning it in for ages. I just tried Berseria and for some reason the game runs like ass in window or borderless window mode. If I set the framerate to 60 the gameplay is basically complete slow motion. However in fullscreen it seems to run perfectly fine at 60 fps, even with the highest resolution and maxed settings. What's up with that?

They never entirely lost it in the first place. People bitched up a storm about Zestiria for waifu related reasons but then still went ahead and bought it's prequel anyway. They even voted in Famitsu to give Velvet and her VA an award for Best Female Character and Voice Performance 2016 and no I'm not making this shit up that really is a thing that happened.

It's sales also started off noticeably slower than usual but rallied pretty quickly to the usual Post 2010 franchise average of about 400K in Japan by the end of 2016. This was with carrying the baggage from the Zestiria blow up too. Franchise really isn't going anywhere any time soon.
