>>378751224
It's like the TSA. You can't legally avoid it, it's annoying, creates additional hassle and is put in place to keep illegitimate "clients" away but mostly hits the legitimate ones as the illegitimate ones get what they want anyway.

You want to play GTAIV? Well, can't legally do it without also installing GamesForWindowsLive, which, you know, doesn't even exist anymore.

GOG allows you to download the games on offer into a folder on your PC. That's it. You never have to worry about account credentials, internet connection, CD keys, 3rd party DRM software and all that shit ever again. No forced patches that cripple your experience / performance. And it's completely legal. Even their client (like Steam) is fully optional and just there to help you organize and install your games.
>>
>>378751761
Pretty sure they could legally lock your account tomorrow and prevent you from accessing all your Steam games without even giving any reason.
>>
>>378752412
lol the fuck are you talking about, steam works perfectly fine offline

>>378750373

Not exactly. For one there is no steam software needed, two all games,ALL of them are DRM free so you can pretty much do whatever you like with the setup files and store them in any manner you like.

It is not the same.GOG is more convenient, the quality of the service is better and most games have all original content packed right beside the setup so you are saved a google up for the manual.pdf.

Reminder that people purchasing games developed by Obsidian incentivizes publisher to hire them to make more games in the future. Reminder that the reason Obsidian doesn't see a portion of the sales is because they instead agreed to a flat bonus based on metacritic rating. Reminder that you are a fucking idiot.

GOG Fallout New Vegas is the same as Steam New Vegas except DRM-free

Fallout 3 on GOG is different than the Steam version.

These days, when I want a game, I always check GOG first. Steam is great and all but it has become second choice. Plus, I'm patient... Wait long enough and the chances for any game to be released on GOG rise dramatically.

You can also vote for new games to be added to the GOG library: gog.com/wishlist
Enough votes and GOG will try to make a deal with the publisher to release it on GOG.

How is Steam DRM then? Being a digital distribution platform that offers most of the downloads only when you purchase doesn't mean it's a DRM, it just means the platform works as intended. Explain to me on the example of Super Crate Box (a free, non-DRM game you can download from steam and do whatever the fuck you want after) that Steam is DRM.

Surprisingly, yes. Mods help of course but I will admit New Vegas is superior in that regard.

Yes. But even Skyrim has a decent world, personally I felt that the Mojave was a bit too constricted and small.

>Themes that reflect real world conflicts
That's pretty much every RPG on some sort of subtle level. Fantasy games like the TES series emphasize it less though, sure.

>Solid variety of weapon skills that play differently
You what? NV has melee and unarmed for up close, then various guns for ranges. Most animations are pretty identical just like attack animations in every Gamebryo game. Nobody really plays them for the outstanding combat.

Read up the definition of DRM then. By your logic every site and platform is DRM. DRM only controls what you can do with the content after you've acquired it. The methods of acquisition and the control of legitimacy of purchase have nothing to do with DRM. Hello?

It does.

And FO3 never used GFWL as copy protection DRM. Logging in to GFWL was purely optional and got you nothing but achievements.

Both Oblivion and FO3 had disc check DRM, Oblivion on the executable and FO3 on the launcher, which I can only assume was stripped out of the Steam releases and not replaced.

No, you just decided this condition exists based on nothing. What you are referring to is things like copy protection, just aspects of the complete DRM package.

Technically, yes, even GOG is a DRM platform. The difference between GOG and Steam, however, is GOG does not maintain it's presence after the acquisition, Steam does attempt to do so with varying degrees of success. Steam, for example, provides no independent installer for the software you have purchased, GOG does.

It's the worst in the series but it's by no means a bad game. Daggerfall and Morrowind just set a very high bar. Oblivion's got some major flaws but it's still a massive open-world RPG with a shit-ton of customization and content to experience. Mods cover most of the flaws anyway, and why in the fuck would you play any TES game without mods that objectively improve the experience? If any other series had modding toolkits as good as TES you would be retarded to play them without mods too.

No. Oblivion was a good game.
I've been discovering old gems I didn't play back in my days and Oblivion has become one of my favorite games. Modded, that is.
It just gets all the hate because of the generic LotR shittery and the lore rape. Morrowind is infinitely better in these aspects, but it's a different game and plays different. Morrowind isn't even my second favorite though. Daggerfal is better IMO and modded Oblivion is perfect if you don't mind the lore.

Cyrodiil doesn't look at all like Morrowind described it.
Imperial city has some serious gondor-vibes and the landscapes are those bigass grasslands and forests instead of the dense jungles we expected. But that's ok for me. Once you add Unique landscapes and Snu's Dungeons/better dungeons it's really good. Way ess alien than Morrowind was, but really comfy.

>>378771752
>Cyrodiil doesn't look at all like Morrowind described it.
of course it doesn't
the imperial city's whiteness does mimic minas tirith, yes, but that's where the similarities end. Most of Oblivions artistic influences have nothing coming from LOTR at all; alyed ruins, oblivion realms, any of the major city architectures, any of the races, etc.
>>
>>378755248
game is fucking shit don't even joke about it
>>
>>378771019
>and the lore rape

Oh, it's this shit again. The same book that describes Cyrodiil as being "endless jungle" actually more specifically describes it elsewhere as the Imperial City being located in a valley surrounded by grassland, which is in Oblivion, which is in turn surrounded by rain forest, which is in Oblivion, which in turn is surrounded by mountains to the north, swamps to the east, tropical mangroves to the south and more forest to the west which gives way to a dry area, all of which are in Oblivion.

Some specifics are missing, like the rice patty fields, but it is mostly as described. It just seems the liberal throwing around of the world "jungle" lead people to expect a very different landscape.

It was considered dumbed down but that didn't mean /v/ hated it.

Once upon a time /v/ had no shame in liking "normie" games, even if they weren't flawless or did come from "mainstream" devs. They might be a little disappointed but they didn't mean they insisted on posting hyperbolic crap about how it's the worst game ever made and telling people who did like playing it to go back to wherever they came from or to kill themselves or whatever. You got GOG (Good Old Games) confused with GMG (Green Man Gaming) or perhaps G2A. The latter two are distributors of games which include steam codes for most PC games, while GOG only sells direct downloads of games and often digitized manuals/guidebooks/etc. that were included in the retail copies. GOG's whole selling point is that their games possess no DRM, which means you do not need a proprietary client to download or play them and the games themselves do not employ any verification schemes like CD checks.

When you buy a game on GOG, you are buying the right to download a file from their servers which you can then copy to any other computer you own and install, without internet or further hoops to go through. This generally makes the GOG releases the ideal versions of games to pirate.

Neo-/v/ remembers Oblivion fondly because they were like 12 years old when it came out and for some reason never got acquainted with simply better games, never realizing how awful Oblivion and the likes where even at their very release day. It's the same kind of people that get nostalgic over Modern Warfare, Dragon Age or Mass Effect, just complete and utter ignoramuses that don't even possess basic knowledge over a medium as infantile as video games. Imagine what their taste in music or literature has to be like, just... kinda sad, really.

>>378779069
It affected everyone retard. You had to pop in your disk to play or mount the ISO. Annoying as shit.

Who would have thought!
>>

Don't work with mods.
>>
>>378760790
Not to mention:

>Witcher series
Follow the story of a premade, voiced player character who will always be some variant of a melee swordsman alchemist

>TES series
Create your own character who can be a warrior, mage, thief, or any combination of the three.

>Witcher series
Very little moddability

>TES series
A variety of tools that allow for many different kinds of mods, from simple visual improvements to full-fledged quest lines.

Hasn't been this way since Morrowind.

I'm willing to go a tiny bit higher than $10 for the Steam game if that'll make it equal

Oh boy what an argument!

If anyone's like me and bought these games on GOG in hope of bug-fixes, I'm sad to say these releases are as buggy as the Steam/GFWL editions :(
(Had the exact same BSOD bug on New Vegas as on Steam. Managed to fix it, but I don't think that's exclusive to the GOG version.) (Also, if your problem with the games exist because of steam or GFWL they might be fixed, what the hell do I know)
>>
>>378779606
I don't, and it is.
>>
>>378751797
do play vanilla first. Might not want to go "hardcore" since literally all it does is have you carry some food and cripples your inventory space with bullets having weight, which is just fucking annoying imo. I guess it's just not my thing but it didnt make the game harder. Just a shitload more tedious.

One mod I could recommend for vanilla is the one that lets you open lock with explosives. It basically scales the same way as lockpicking so you'll be able to unlock locks that require 75 lockpicking skill with 75 Explosive skill level stuff.

Do the DLC in order they came out cause there's a story and it just goes to waste if you dont do them in order.

>>378751226
Just pirate it then you scone
>>
>>378750373
Guys, I'm getting really fucking concerned here.

GoG Oblivion doesn't work with OBSE because "unknown version". It can't be updated because "No registry key". I manually updated it but OBSE just won't work.
WHAT THE FUCK?! DON'T YOU FUCKING TELL ME I'll have to stick to my pirated version, like always

>Is NMM better than OMM?
No.

>Why or why not?
Most Oblivion mods used the omod format, which only works well in OBMM.
>>
It's pretty trivial to remove Steam from the Steam version anyway. Easy enough that a layman could do it with a guide, without downloading anything sketchy.
>>
>>378781414
Works on my machineā„¢ ;)

By manually updating you mean downloading "Latest loader" right?
>>

Oblivion was always DRM free you moron.

I still have the original CD too.

YYYYYYYEEEEEEEESSSSSS!!!!

I can finally delete my cracked copies. And if Beth decides to embrace GoG (by releasing Skyrim/FO4 & Arkane's recent games), I won't pirate those either.

I swear everybody with taste has moved on already. I just don't know where to go. I always find myself back here like making my way home.
>>
>>378782112
Arkane's new games come with denuvo and they haven't even removed it after the cracks.

I doubt they'll be coming to GoG any time soon.
>>
>>378781865
Those are all install files.
You download them all and after that use the first install exe to get the game installed.

After the installation you can delete all those files. The game will be ready whereever you installed it and you can start it whenever you want via its exe
