The Switch won't be handling the mic chat, your phone will. But your phone doesn't have the sounds of the game itself. So the reason this fucking contraption exists is to feed the mic signal on your headset to your phone so you can talk, and mix the audio of the group chat on your phone and the game audio from the Switch into one signal so you hear both through the headphones.

In short, Nintendo can't into voice chat.

So they gotta decide how they'll do voice. Well everyone who can afford a switch has a smart phone, anyone who doesn't is black or just needs to die. So what do they do? They could get the Switch to work with mobile hotspots like people do but most phone companies have limited hotspot data and then it gets throttled n shit and it's not practical, so what to do?

Make they voice be in an independent and dedicated app on smartphones.

But the masses still want to hear the game while they're talking to friends and stuff, so what to do? Well headphone splitters are a thing, why not make one that goes in reverse, matching up the phone and tablet audio into one set of 'phones. Allowing their customers to hear both the voice audio and game audio, without having to charge a FUCK ton more for the Switch by having more internal parts and adaptors n shit for voice only on the console, and for maybe what $5-10 for the app if they charge by itself or $5-10 a month or whatever they're charging for their online service and the voice chat phone might be included in that.

Really as stupid as the arrow looks, It's not all that confusing as to why they did it. Saves them from charging the fuck out of customers so they're more inclined to buy the console, plus once they have the console they'll be inclined to buy the arrow thing for $20-30
