You just have to do that fight against and pick the character you didn't choose first time around. The final ending will follow on from the ending for that character.

How much am I screwing myself up by ignoring all sidequests? What will I miss? Are there point of no returns?
>>
>>378725101
With all the incredibly bland empty environments, the park is the one that is actually visually good
It doesn't waste time and keeps up its interest all the way
Has the best boss fight in the game
Has the best atmosphere and ambient music in the game
Not that anon and I agree with him that the game sucks, but the park is the ultimate peak of it not only in visuals, but music, atmosphere and boss fights too.
>>
>>378725236
I assume you're on Route A. The point of no return is delivering supplies to the Flooded City. I would do the sidequests, as a lot of them, while kinda fetchy in nature, have some neat worlbuilding and stories within them. My favorite quests were Amnesia, Wandering Couple, Stamp Collector, Wise Machines, Lost Girl, both Operator quests, Idiot Savant, the Recluse, Machine Examination, Gathering Keepsakes, and the Emil questlines. If anything, you absolutely should do Amnesia, Emils quest, and Gathering Keepsakes
>>
>>378725236
Certain sidequests can only be finished in certain chapters, but the vast majority are open for an entire playthrough. By not doing sidequests, you're missing out on a shitload of world development and characterization. You'll know you're on the verge of the point of no return when you get an email saying your inbox is almost at capacity.
>>
>>378725236
>How much am I screwing myself up by ignoring all sidequests?
I'd say some quests are mandatory to do like YoRHa Betrayers/Emils Memories/Wise Man Quest/Redhood Quest.
I think especially Emils Memories is important since it expands a Quest that will hit you in the balls once you finish it.

>Are there point of no returns?
Once you are on Route C it's over for every Route A/B sidequest
>>
>>378725236
They give good rewards and you only have to do them once, so there's no reason not to do them. Plus, some of them give insight on the story and reward weapons, so you won't get ending Y if you ignore them.
>>
>>378725496

I love Nier and Nier: Automata and I think the games are fantastic experiences, but I sure do dislike A2.

She feels pointless in the grand scheme of things and to me comes off as more of a device to move the plot forward than an actual character worth playing as.

Darkest Dungeon (hardcore roguelike indie game the majority of /v/ can't even handle because casual shitters) sold 1,2m copies.
No fanservice or ecchi shit whatsoever. 1,2m copies only on Steam.

Nier Automata (muh Taro, muh 2booty, muh Platinum Games, muh legacy) sold only 1,5m copies together on PS4 and PC (mostly on PS4 because PC version is still unpatched trash for many people).

>>
>>378727113
I don't know man, I've read up on summaries of the prequel play/musical album thing, and even that doesn't seem to make A2 that unique in my eyes. She gets betrayed by Yorha and all that, sure, but that's not unique for the characters in the first place. It's not like in the first Nier, when outside material clears up crazy details like Kaine having a dick and Emil fighting space aliens and all that.
>>
>>378727302
She gets a bit expanded on in side materials that were released recently.

Darkest dungeon is a budget indie title often sold at a discount and been out for over a year.

Nier is a full priced niche title which has only been on the market for 2-3 months and already outsold Darkest dungeon, and of course it sold more on PS4 as that platform has a larger install base and is home to the niche market it is aimed at
>>
>>378727682
But we at least get to understand how her mind works, why she does the things she does, and have enough time with her to form a connection. By the time we get our hands on A2, all we get is her being angry at things, going to random places just because, and her allowing Pascal more time to develop.

The stage play came before the game so having that knowledge before hand would've made her character more understandable.
I don't like how she's presented in game because she's not as relatable without knowing side materials.

It is though, just because it managed sell a lot compared to its predecessors doesn't make it less niche. Most of the knowledge about the game is almost exclusively due to word of mouth rather than advertisement.

I said that mediocre shit game isn't a real roguelike. It lacks features a real roguelike would have, like an actual failstate. It doesn't even have tiles and it's turnbased instead of having enemies act simultaneously.
Kinda funny how you think a grind based game you can't lose at is "hard" and takes effort to play.
Play an actual roguelike.
>>

It's not Final Fantasy numbers, but I'm really happy the game did so well.

The budget was also pretty low, I mean, it was high compared to DoD3 and NieR OG, but for an AAA title it was bottom of the barrel.

I posted this on a Facebook discussion of the game with my friends.

The game does have its faults, but when you dig past a bit of the hammy dialog (not unlike in Metal Gear Solid V) and the awkward-for-some fanservice, you WILL find an incredibly thought provoking piece of existentialism that does not stop at simply asking questions about life's purpose, what human nature is, and what it means to be human.

Rather than just quoting Nietzsche to look smart and act self-satisfied in the glow of philosophical posturing. (which it does too sometimes, in a very tongue-in-cheek way) Automata puts on the gloves, and goes elbow deep into uncomfortable answers of self-awareness in an universe very much so proven to hold no meaning for those fortunate and unfortunate enough to gain sentience. A hell of a lot of games PRETEND to examine what you could call "human condition" but Automata truly does the work required to turn that examination into a meaningful, heartfelt endeavor.

This is Yoko Taro we're talking about, so the game is an extremely sorrowful experience. Automata talks about themes like pain and trauma, and Taro has no intention of letting the players look away from the HORROR. Despite the suffering, the game is also incredibly witty. The more than welcome humor, and breaks of the fourth wall help temper an overwhelming feeling of despair with bittersweet comedy and a cast of beloved characters.

2B is a struggler of this whole story. I can't say that she's a plot device simply because she dies and 9S goes mad from it, she continues to influence two other characters all the way to the end of a game, and her backstory is the most tragic of all main characters as 9S at least lived in ignorant bliss for the most part, with a girl who loves him more than life.
>>
>>378731896
>>378731435

And the music, Jesus fucking Christ, the music. As far as soundtracks go, there are few, if any, as integral to a game as the OST of Automata is. Each piece is breathtakingly beautiful and regularly integrated into gameplay to make it just as important to game as a whole as everything else. The game suffers from the usual washed-out brown tones that plague most modern games, but character and environment designs are fantastic and it really makes you forget the game is not as graphically polished as other recent offerings.

All that being said. If you're so inclined to play Automata, I beg you to at least play it three times. It's a shame I have to invariably spoil a portion of one of the surprises in store when I describe just how good Automata is, but it's important I do so. The game itself doesn't do a great job in compelling the player to play again. But you NEED to know how important it is to play Automata more than once.

NieR: Automata is important. It is historically significant in terms of its design and the way in which it uses the framework of a game in order to tell a morphing, evolving, ever-changing story.

This all is just copypasted, but I'm not gonna write a whole diatribe each time the subject comes up.

There's no other game that ties gameplay and mechanics to the narrative.
And besides its simple combat and often shitty exterior visuals, its a game full of creativity that keeps surprising you to very last minute.

Its the kind of game that really utilizes the medium of video games perfectly, and like no other modern title. Its not afraid to be a game. Many other (western) games almost feel like they dont want to be games. Like how they remove the hud, because the hud is unimmersive and not real. Automata does the opposite, it jump into the video game aspect head first.

People always criticitz singled out aspects of it. Like the combat system, or the story they didn't like. Missing that games are all about the experience. Video games are more than the sum of their parts. Thats why TW3, a game with a very floaty and shallow sword combat, and an overusage of detective vision that holds players hands till the bitter end, became the most awarded game of all time. Because even with those elements, the overall experience delivered is superb and one of the best ever delivered.

I'm one of those who say that Automata is one of the best games, if not the best game I've played in years. I could go for deeper combat. Even though the game has a completely different flow than games like Bayonetta, which are often about clearing arenas to continue, and a combat like that would probably break the open and forward flow. I could definitely go for better textures. But still, this is a game that left its mark, and I'm glad it got the recognition it deserves.

What about Medicare then?

Unlike her fellow founder of American Libertarianism, Isabel Paterson, who chose to die sick and poor rather than even open her Social Security card, Rand spent the rest of her life collecting over $11,000 in government assistance NOT COUNTING SOCIAL SECURITY, because principles are all well and good until you get cancer. We're not saying she didn't deserve the help, but she sure dedicated the pre-cancer stage of her life to giving people in similar situations a ton of shit for it.

Bullshit, its just a simply reaction to the fear of dying, showing that she didnt believe in her ideals enough to suffer for them.

I'm having fun with hard, because it's actually "hard". The problem is when the opera boss just starts jumping endlessly and now I have to dodge not only the jump, but the waves.

It's some hard shit, man.

I didn't mean that her skin is supposed to be that way, but that it's more fitting to her being a veteran who was in Pearl Harbor and to her having a berserk function in place of a self destruct one.

Is it ever explained why and how Adam and Eve are born? It just seems to happen out of nowhere.

Also I wish 2B's story was told better in the game, it has a really interesting development but endings A and B don't really have an impact unless you know the whole story. When playing through A and B all I thought was wtf why all the drama just reload the body bank in bunker.

A2 is very sweet and cute, she maybe not so bright but at least she knows what's the deal

A2 is very strong and rough, she maybe lost her friends but at least she knows what's up

A2 is very edged little punk, she maybe a social awkward but the least she knows around

>Is it ever explained why and how Adam and Eve are born?
Q40. Multiple machine lifeforms formed a cocoon from which Adam was born - how does that work, exactly?
Multiple machine lifeforms fused to become a temporary factory, and gave birth to Adam from that. Since they used drastically different materials when creating Adam, Adam looks like a regular human, but the fact that he has a core means that he’s still a machine lifeform.

>12422: September 2nd: An android wearing black clothes is sighted.

In the QA he mentions the lolita clothing and the choice of black is from the android that founded YorHa. Same android? Does this mean the sequel will continue the timeline or will we go back to the foundation of YorHa?
>>
>>378739606
Original android who founded YoRHa and the one who kickstarted bunker number 13 are both dead for more than 100 years prior the events of Automata and one of them was a prototype of 9S.

The identity of android in black is left to your interpretation but i doubt it's someone from the main trio as they won't wear the same things for nearly 500 years. Maybe some new YoRHa-types created because of a truce between androids and machines.
