It's $12 on the PS store, is it worth it? What can I expect?

If you want an average game that's three steps down from its predecessor and does nothing to push the genre forward,

then sure, it's worth it.

Nothing special but worth $12 if you like hack n slash. I liked it enough to beat it once and have never had the urge to touch it again.

Better than dmc2, worse than the other 3 by a good margin. Not as terrible as /v/ makes it out to be. If I had to give it a numerical score it's 6/10.

It's a fun game with pretty environments and a mostly good art style. Ironically it probably has the best action combat of any western action game I've played, while it still pales in comparison to Japanese ones. The real flaw is the story and characters, they are really that bad, at least Kat is cute and not some ugly dyke. Honesty this would be a pretty good game if it wasn't called "Devil May Cry."

Even with the balance changes, there are still weird holdovers like color-coded enemies only being stunlocked with matching weapons and a damage-based style meter. Lock on is only useful for the camera and only allows you to use stinger as a directional input, every other technique requires you to hold down buttons and have specific weapons equipped. Hardcore mode doesn't really change anything, it just makes the game more frustrating. These might sound like minor complaints, but given how fast they stack up and how completely irredeemable the story the game wears out its welcome very quickly.

DMC4SE is also on sale right now, it's a significantly better game if you haven't played it.
