Because most people who play primarily Puyo are at least at the level where they can build OHKO chains against Tetris, and in my experience most non-Japanese Tetris players don't utilize T-spins. Either that or they wish they were playing just a Tetris game and seek only Tetris opponents.

Some of them, yes.
And it's shit because it resets the storyline AGAIN, and introdocues two new characters who are both really boring. One of them is literally a recolor of another. Not to mention around 5-6 characters got fully animated and voiced, but were forced into a singleplayer only mode so that the 24 limit could be kept in multiplayer modes.

Well, let's compare it to Fever 2.
The art is a massive downgrade. Basically every returning character's art is just traced from 15th, which was already a little lacking compared to Fever 2 in the art department. Any new characters (Risukuma, Ringo, holy shit ECOLO, and to a lesser extent Maguro) look like complete dogshit. Seriously, just look at this Ecolo. Hell, if you watch a video of Ecolo in 7, his in-game animations are literally just recolored animations from Feli, Arle, and Ringo. They didn't even make them look like Ecolo. The story cutscenes got rid of all movement for the boring VN portraits that we're STILL stuck with, too.
Gameplay wise, Henshin is literally just "FEVER: IT'S WORSE NOW". Seriously, big puyos are so unbelievably broken it makes me wonder how the fuck anyone improved it. The singleplayer mode is laughably easy, too.
Story-wise, the game basically resets the whole fucking universe for the sake of making Ringo the main character, since the main point of marketing with 7 was that Ringo's VA was a chick who did voices for the Idolm@ster games. They threw out all of the plotlines (Sig and Klug's book, Oshare looking for his lover, Accord and Popoi and what the fuck is up with Accord and Popoi, Arle trying to get back to the Madou-verse, etc) and threw them right the fuck out the window so the apple could be in the spotlight. And I like the apple, don't get me wrong, but that's some Sonic-level bullshit in terms of fucking up any potential the plot might've had.

It's not COMPLETELY bad, it's still Puyo at its core, but it's complete trash since you could be playing literally ANY other Puyo game. Even Yon

Fusion is my favorite mode but I can never find people around here to play it with. It's just about clearing things quickly and consecutively. Gets the adrenaline going.
