Walk.

It's such a good creepypasta until the ending. Should have kept it as a mysterious game with obvious creepy intentions, but overall just a weird game who's history we'll never fully understand.

That or just have it be actually haunted but not freaking personally attacking you.

The best elements of the creepypasta beyond the artwork are the elements like STILL THE BEST 1973 because they imply this strange history and make the reader want to understand where all this weird stuff is coming from.

MISSINGNO.jpg

>>378710138
The concept of MissingNO scared the everloving fuck out of me as a kid, and was the only reason I ever believed half of these absurd "glitch" "hack" stories. Because in the case of MissingNO you're told
>Lol talk to a specific NPC then fly to a specific town then use a specific HM at this specific spot of land and if you do that you will run into an unused glitch pokemon called Missing Number
>Me, 8: Lol you're full of shit

And then I did the glitch. The moment the battle screen took longer to came up is a moment I can still revisit. I froze with the realization that whatever was about to appear on screen wasn't something I was expecting. And then MISSINGNO appeared, making another Poke's cry, possessing a weird, unused type (Bird??) and looking absolutely unreal. For some reason when I saw it in-game, I realized the sheer terror of what this would mean. As an 8 year old I comprehended that this is the real life equivalent of going fishing and running into a demon, with the actions leading up to that a summoning ritual. I caught MissingNO, stored it in the box, saved, and went to sleep. I'd get over it.

Except for the fact that the next day, when I loaded Red, it said:
>The SAVE DATA has been destroyed!

The demon had destroyed the world while I slept.

SCP entries (still written by amateurs though) are formatted in a way where things HAVE to be left out with no payoff which, imo makes for much better spook reading.

There are rare occurrences of good SCPs past the 1000 cutoff point, yeah, but it was around that time that it started to get really popular and cringe worthy. The shitty self-inserts and furry OC's littering it get painful and downright depressing to see what was a great site soiled by retards.
However, there are occasional silver linings. Like when some group of autists made an SCP "roleplay" scenario with stupid shit, then O U R G U Y Dr. Clef finds his way in the alternate reality they existed in. Then proceeded to nuke that entire reality. Or the time he used various SCPs to kill some shitty Mary-Sue self insert by flinging him into the sun with the kiddie-pool portal. Good times.

Unsafe place, danger on other side, it is not human, someone else is here, safe place to rest, and pray while shooting are the best ones. Symbols compromised is good to.
A game with this concept could be really good. Imagine a multiplayer game where you're going into areas where past teams of players have failed and you have to use their signs to navigate. Would be hard to make work but would be excellent if done well.

One thing I like about SCP is that very little is actually known about the facilities. We don't know if it's one giant facility housing all the SCPs or if it's many different places, if it's all in one country or all over the world. It's like the SCP foundation itself is an SCP. Now if only some people didn't feel the need to self insert themselves as doctors into the stories and it would be perfect.

The problem with 95% of video game creepypasta is that they're written. You just can't immerse yourself that way. People write what seems spooky but there's no actual spook to be found. Ben Drowned worked because there was footage and Jad wrote the story based on the corruptions that he caused in the game and recorded, and people aped the "corruptions" part without the "recording" part. NES Godzilla was engrossing because although it ended up overly complex graphically, it was a slow enough change through the story that you stopped minding. Petscop was an original creation which apes PS1 games pretty well (though we can all see the minor errors), and so the creator has 100% control over everything.

The best way to do a creepypasta or an ARG is to make the game yourself and just drop it somewhere, shill a tiny bit if you have to. But people don't have the skill to do that.

Video game creepypasta are just the Idea Guys of horror.
>>
>>378733045

The latter are newspapers and changing messages that pop up on walls occasionally.

This is a pretty interesting take on the idea. I like the staff that are only designed to run through the halls because that's what the beings that created the Wallmart think is normal from observing humans. I really love stuff like this. It's fun to imagine what the purpose of something like this being created would be. Probably to capture humans but for what purpose? It's really cool.

My favorite kinds of creepypasta are the ones which are less like a story and more like an in-universe description. Hard to explain. Ones which are like lists of rules about a certain place. Not rituals. The kind of thing that makes you feel like you've stepped into another world. This is a good example. http://slimebeast.com/forum/slimy-stories/attention-goodshop-customers/

Excellent taste. I love feeling like I'm looking into some strange alternate universe with a different set of rules. If they're done right, things like that can be a lot more unsettling than more mundane horror. I remember once reading about a website for a fictional fast-food chain that was written and constructed as if for some alien species. Unfortunately, I can't remember where I read about it.

Anyway, the subreddit 45th World Problems is a place I'll visit sometimes for a fix of the surreal, even if it isn't strictly horror-focused: https://www.reddit.com/r/45thworldproblems/.

Probably. The SCPs would have to be designed to use the signs though or else there would be no point if it were easy to contaim them without them. But I guess it would be dumb if the first team were guaranteed to lose. I don't know. Like I said it would be hard to do.

I'd love if a Petscop style game had this done with it. If the game were made and you just had to figure it out. However it's really hard to hide that stuff today since people can go through the code and pick out everything. You'd have to be a really good coder to sufficiently encrypt everything or have Denuvo on your freemium internet game.

Probably the best SCP was the one with the story from the female MTF member because you could read the story and get stuff uncensored as you kept going, and it got sexual at one point, can't remember what it was, but it was a good way to show that censoring something doesn't always make it better and sometimes when it's uncovered it's much better

I don't think you'll ever get one of these that doesn't go on hiatus at least once. It's a difficult thing to run and they often take breaks. It's kinda hard to ask for people to subscribe to their patreons and still suspend disbelief.
>>
>>378739185
Sure, I understand that, my point is that even if most of them are semi abandoned or simply ended, like Marble Hornets, we haven't really gotten any new ones to replace them

There's a lot of stuff to take in. Watch Night Mind's video on it. One thing I didn't like about Night Mind's video though is that he disregards any connection to the death of the Newmaker girl when it's very clear that that is a big influence on the game. There's no way all that stuff is a coincidence. Yeah the game was made before it but the story is at least inspired by it.

Honestly I agree. The "haunted cartridge with weird occurrences" story has been done to death, but I think the reason Ben works so well is because it made an already creepy thing creepier (Instead of trying to make something mundane scary). As a kid, I always tried to avoid using Link's statue as much as possible because of how uncanny it was, and Ben rode off that fear.
