Really can't decide if I want to buy it or not. The game looks pretty great, but I've not spent a significant amount of time with previous Tekken games. There's also the issue of not owning a stick anymore, which would be awkward for me. I don't know how well Tekken plays on controller, though.

Also not sure if the PS4 vanilla or PC version would be better. PC would let me play at a higher resolution and not have to pay for PSN, but I'm sure there will be more players on PS4. Unless there's crossplay that I'm not aware of.

I mean max BnBs are alot easier to do then KOF13 same with regular BnBs they're shorter and simpler. But still the neutral and pace will eat a new shitter alive. Same with GGXrdR its alot easier then AC but still took my friends half a year to grasp their mains to near mid level.


Pretty much any none NRS/Capcom fighter is hard to use the word accessible with. Id just say KOF/GG got alittle easier to get into but all the lessons you need to learn are still there.

Other top fighters, namely Street Fighter, KoF and MK/Injustice have advanced impressively in their latest installments; but the relic that is tekken just can't seem to evolve, furthermore many combos can be done simply by hitting 1-button, and the nearly "instant-kill" rage art moves are just laughably broken. Instead of a supplying a proper fighting engine, matches in T7 seem to rely heavily on "who can get their rage move off first". So many elements of the gameplay don't even require any sort of skill. In my book, slow motion over and over again also gets old very quickly. And in the end, it's more of a novelty or gimmick rather than an actual, thought-out fighting game mechanic. SFV has done nothing but make itself easier in the worst possible ways a fighting game can. Pros and mid level players think its trash that just caters to idiots and FChamp describes it as playing Marvel with input lag. Floe says its like Marvel. Xian says its impossible control the neutral or get a feeling that you are even with a life lead. And many more amazing/solid players who've played it for a year now.

SF has dripped so far down the drain its barely holding on even with its brand fanaticism the only reason SFV is even alive now. If it was just another fighter without SF characters and the same mechanics it would be dead in the fucking water.

so i think an approach that might work for newer players, or anyone really, trying to get into the game and learn characters, is to learn around 10 or so things, and just learn to apply them in actual tekken. just one or two options to cover every basic area. it would be something like
>your standing launcher button + combo (often hopkick, or 2, or df+2, etc)
>a knockdown / spike + combo
>high crush
>low crush
>power crush
>a jab string for damage (punish)
>a safe jab string (pressure and general "checking" your opponent)
and then you'll likely have a few character-specific ones to add on, like a really good side-stepping button, or a Whilst Standing launcher + combo, or maybe a stance + a couple of good options from that stance. when you are playing someone you might notice that you are getting fucked up by low pokes, so just try to apply your most basic option, a low crush or power crush for instance. add all of this together with trying to move around with backdash cancel, which is universal, and you will start to have a good base with any character in the game. each character has hundreds of moves and strings, and it can be really fun when you have deep knowledge to freestyle with tons of different stuff. but when learning, you can use this base to stop mashing and actually engage with tekken's overall mechanics in a simple way, which is fun in of itself.

You don't need stick for Tekken, as the best players in the US use pad. If you want to avoid thumb cramps, or just like the look/feel of a stick, give it a shot.
