Melee players have so much more experience than you at this point that they will always be better than you.
Look at the tournaments, always the same people in the top. It amazes me how people still care about this game when the tournaments are always the same shit.

20xx won't really help you unless you have at least a decent amount of pvp experience though. since you're calling yourself "awful" you should probably be brushing up on fundamentals first.

I've installed it on a fresh 1.02 iso, but nothing seems to have changed. Maybe it's because I have Melee mem card data?

Hmm, I think there's a tutorial on installing it in the smashboards thread on 20XX. If I'm not mistaken, there can be issues with certain isos.

I can't remember, I installed it too long ago. That being said, for practicing basic shit though, you don't need 20XX. It definitely helps, but following a basic practice routine is good enough to improve with if you're just beginning.
