Lukas and Forsythe are shit. Knights aren't a good class in Echoes due to their poor speed and low movement on top of being lance users; Lukas especially is just trash.
Python is the worst natural archer in the game.

My Kliff and Tobin are monsters, especially Kliff. On top of that he has good defense. Alm is no question, he's good all around. Claire is alright with the mount slayer or whatever it's called, but otherwise a glass cannon. Same with Clive, glass cannon. Lukas and Forsyth are my tanks (except when there are mages). Fayes is..... well, Faye. The guy with the brown skin, forgot his name, he's my tank as well. Mathilda is best unit.

No. Clive is fucking trash. In order to be a glass cannon, you actually have to be capable of killing things, which Clive is not since he gets double-attacked by basically every unit that isn't a knight.
Claire is also a glass cannon but she has the stats to kill things dead, making her actually good.
And maybe I was just lucky, but for me Claire basically got 3+ stats every level and usually in speed and attack. Which was a refreshing change after 90% of Alm's army getting maybe 2 stats per level at that point in the game

Maybe it's just me, but overall soldiers/knights were just dead weight most of the time. Yeah they can tank but I never really needed them, and they could never kill things when it counted. Lukas, Forsythe, and Valbar easily saw the least amount of combat outside of healers in my playthrough.

Are you equipping Clive with good weapons? Typically he can attack twice, give him a steel lance and he can easily kill units, especially when armorslayer comes into play. I've had no problem taking down foes when using him. It's most survival that's the problem, especially mages because of his low resistance and defense.

I made him an archer as well. Maybe I just got lucky. My Tobin is better than my Python as far as attacking goes. Survival is a different story, Python is still king when it comes to that.

Archers are actually a lot better than it first appears. They have low stats but they make up for it with a huge attack range as snipers and the bow skills, which make up for their lackluster natural power. Killer bows especially turn them into forces of destruction
