When you think about it, him dying halfway through the story is kinda like how Far Cry as a seried (in my opinion) was.

After the halfway mark, it got bad. (After 3 in this case.)

Vaas was enough of a fun character that he should've been an actual boss.
What we got was entertaining, but not memorable.

Ubisoft tried to create a huge satire.
They killed Vaas because they knew people would be attached to him, and this feeling of emptiness after his death is something “You never feel that in a game”.
But it didn't improve the overall experience, so the public responded badly.

He's just a really generic psycho dressed like a surfer junkiebro that shows up 3 times in the game, fails to kill you because he's monologuing or leaving before have a chance to die, delivers some deeply philosophical rant for a 16yo, then dies in an hallucinogenic trip.
