I disagree that the whole Dark Souls series doesn't have the same qualities as Demon's Souls and Bloodborne, but only on the original Dark Souls. Dark Souls 2 and 3 were lackluster, but the original still hit a lot of the same things as Demon's and Bloodborne.

I did really enjoy first walking into the Smouldering Lake area in 3 though. If only it weren't such a disappointment after learning the worm is meant to be cheesed and not actually fought and that no one is actually operating the ballista. Such a shame.

I can see someone preferring Dark Souls 3 to 2 because of the area design even if it is very linear but the PvE combat in 2 felt much more balanced. The enemies in DS3 break out of your combos after the 2nd or 3rd hit and just staggering the enemy is based on whether you attacked before they did.

Das3 felt too much like didn't know what they wanted to do so they just shoved ds1 references as filler.

Des was goofy and fun. Ds1 was cool. Ds2 was gay, but fucking with the game was fun. Bb was fun. Ds3 is gay.

Had my share of enjoyment in each game. Des is my fav, played it for first time in 2015 after brother gave me ps3 for free. Even found a group of veterans to PvP with for a while.

From tried only with 3 games:
DeS -> full of cool shit like all bosses felt different, actually puishing players over dead, cool online part. Literally made it's own genre
DaS2 -> return to the dungeon exploration and kings field games, very fun
Bloodborne-> amazing 10/10 action game, despite all bosses being fast and punishing, at least 90% of beast bosses felt unique and all humanoid fights were amazing
DaS and DaS3 were just boring and uninspired cash grabs

the combat is much clunkier. the camera gets stuck in a few places (stonefang tunnel). locking loot behind the pure dark/light worlds sucks. getting upgrade materials is a bigger pain in the ass than grinding for slabs in Dark Souls. Ostrava of Boletaria walks around the palace until he gets killed, keeping you from getting the key to Doran. crystal lizards are frustrating because you have to loot the corpses to get the upgrade materials, and a bunch of them tend to commit suicide or fall off ledges after dying. also you only get one shot at killing them, so if they burrow, you can't get them until you kill another boss. most bosses are a joke, with a few exceptions like the flame lurker.

Dunno, but I'm definitely seeing it. People like to attribute the cause to PCfags, but I don't want to think that's true. I think people are just naturally biased towards the first game they played, although there are exceptions. I'll see on average most DeS fans liking BB and DaS; but with DaS fans its a half and half bag. You have some that hate every other game in the series, then you have others that hate exclusively DaS2. It's such a polarizing subject for sure.

The worst aspect of this fanbase is it's diehard "You either like my game, or you're against me' attitude.

It was more experimental. Every one of the demon lords was a fight that changed the rules, making them unique and memorable. Compare that to the rest of the series, as the best they can do is give enemies varied attacks and more health.

Some bosses, like the dragon god, are kind of disappointing, but at least you can feel they didn't play it safe all the way like in the sequels.

I love the bosses in DS3 but they're so easy and short, even in SL1. I only really enjoyed Gael and Midir because they both took longer than 2 minutes to kill. Longer fights should be encouraged.

I don't want them going the direction they did with BB where almost every boss had a ""weakness" you could exploit. I understand it's a video game but not every boss needs to be break limb, stagger, visceral repeat. I'm glad Orphan of Kos and Gehrman were the only two that didn't have that.

I was quite shit at the game on my first play through. It took me a long time to beat. I pretty much gave up for a month on the Armoured Spider.

Dark souls was somewhat more realised and interesting, but still lacked focus and was generally uninteresting due to a huge rushed schedule.

Dark souls 2 is a polished, quality game that bought back core values of what makes games like this truly special, and I for one congratulate the team and Naotoshi Zin on accomplishing that.
