Thoughts on Oddish?
>>
its cute
>>
>>378651459
I like Bellsprout more, but the Oddish line does have Bellossom so it's a close call
>>
>>378651620
I'm in the same boat but I like Vileplume over Bellossom.
>>
No one ever complains about it.

I mean, you ever hear someone go "Oddish again? What the fuck?"

It's the quintessential grass type. No one remembers its poison type though.
>>
I want to pull on one to hear it scream.
>>
>>378651459
Vileplume is cuter.
>>
>>378651459
Always thought it was pretty sexy
>>
>>378651459
I wonder what Oddish tastes like.

I wish more pure plant types existed so bugs are not so shitty

Weren't all the grass pokemon in Gen 1 also poison? Aside from exeggcute/exeggutor.
>>
>>378652147
tangela
>>
>>378652147
Tangela and Paras weren't part poison either.
>>
DUDE
>>
I was oddly obsessed with oddish as a kid, I had a whole team of them
>>
Not trying to start le genwunner war here but why do the old Pokemon look so much more realistic while newer ones look like plastic toys?
>inb4 le floating magnet and le bunch of eggs
I'm not talking about the designs, I'm talking about the art style
>>
>>378652196
>>378652209
Ah gotcha. Was there ever a reason why the Ghastly line was also poison? I felt like they were afraid of pure types in Gen 1.
>>
>>378651459
Paras/Parasect are way cooler.
>>
>>378652263
They went on another art direction...
>>
>>378652284
Not that I know of. Maybe they though ghost would be too powerful without the part poison weighing them down.

>>
>>378652259
That's kind of odd
>>
>>378652371

Making them part-poison is what made psychic too powerful.
>>
>>378652295
Too bad their typing fucks them over.
>>
>>378652339
Yeah and it's shit. Old pokemon actually had shading that made them look sorta like real animals. The new ones look like plastic toys.
>>
>>378652263
Various changes in artstyle tend to reflect the advancement of technology that accompany each generation. Gen III is the first notable shift since the GBA had much brighter colors.

>>
>>378652382
New Pokemon designs are a lot 'rounder' in general. A lot of them look like vinyl toys.

>>
>>378652672
Why does it turn into a pineapple?
>>
>>378652672
Maybe because I got it at the rate age, but I love almost every design in Gen 3. I found them so cool, before it went way off the rails.
>>
>>378652480
Spore is still OP.
>>
>>378652785
This. Ruby was my favorite Pokemon game and I've played every single gen.
>>
>>378652785
I skipped from gen 2 to gen 4 and a lot of my favorites still ended up being from gen 3 after the fact. It has a lot of solid designs.

>that feel when you got into Pokemon at the beginning and don't outright hate any new or old designs, and feel as though each gen adds something new that you'd like to train.
>>
>>378651741
In my youth it was considered a dumb pokemon. kids would come up and say I'll trade you 10 oddishes for x rare card. As for the thread I'd imagine they'd be a fucking pest the spray out various powder and spread like a weed. Imagine mowing your yard and running over hundreds of oddish and hoppips screaming and exploding into various status effect powders. What a annoying pokemon.
>>
>>378652672
This isn't about Lotad but Gen 3 in general, did anyone else have a lot of "wait a second these were in Gen 2?" when playing Gen 3? I played Gold and Crystal but Slugma and Swinub specifically I was like "wait these were introduced in Gen 2? I don't remember them at all". But they had a much bigger presence in 3.
>>
>>378653209
Skarmory is the biggest example of that to me. For years I thought it was a Gen 3 mon.
>>
>>378653157
I wish I felt like that but each new gen I feel is getting more and more ridiculous. Pokémon used to look like believable animals, aside from a few wacky designs. Now everything looks like a digimon. And I'm not a genwunner; gens 3 and 4 are my favorites. But gens 6 and 7 have been awful imo
>>
>>378652481
Not arguing with that, gotta love the old art
>>
>>378653209
Both slugma and swinub were fairly rare finds in gen 2, if I'm remembering correctly. Only encountered in one or two areas at a fairly low rate.

Gen 3 is the only gen where I can respect all the designs. Don't really have any favourites from it but none of the designs are bad.
>>
>>378653209
I always thought that skarmory, slugma and corsola were gen 3.
>>
>>378652481
Yeah I miss the old art. It'd be amazing if they did anniversary book and had all 821 Pokémon drawn in the original style.Along with a few background of towns trainers and shit.
>>
>>378653209
>>378653445
It also didn't help that Slugma was a kanto only mon that could only be found in one area and that you never saw another trainer use one.
>>
>>378652284
>Was there ever a reason why the Ghastly line was also poison?
ghastly looks like a flying ball of poison gas and they didn't want to have something that lost a type as it evolved
>>
>>378653290
Right Skarmory too, I thought they were Gen 3 as well. Nope 2. It's weird I remember playing 1 and 3 very clearly but 2 even though I played a lot of it, is a lot hazier.
>>
>>378653290
Same
Pineco too, I never knew it fucking existed until way after Gen 2
>>
>>378651459
Oddish is my favorite pokemon of all time. I've felt this way ever since I was a child and I just haven't found a pokemon yet that could take its place

From a pure aesthetic stand point what is your favorite pokemon? For me it's Dexoys. I don't know why, but it just pushes all my 'tism buttons perfectly and I just love everything about the design. Great theme, too. Second would be Shedinja.
>>
>>378653167
Imagine mowing your yard and running over hundreds of oddish and hoppips screaming and exploding into various status effect powders
This is fucking terrifying and probably why tall grass is everywhere
>>
My mothers favourite pokemon
>>
>>378653707
It had a five percent spawn rate in a single area. And it didn't even exist in the gold version.
>>
talking about pokemon on /v/ is so much less autistic that doing it on /vp/ gotdamn
>>
>>378653847
if it had its attack form head and regular form body then it would be perfect
>>
>>378653617
Same with Houndour iirc.
They made the mistake of only introducing these when you get to Kanto and at that point your team is probably already complete and you don't have any need for them.
>>
>>378653617
And in a grass patch on Cycling Road of all places. I never got the gen2/3 'mon confusion myself(Beckett Pokemon Collector published a full Johto dex around launch), but I can see why so many people thought these species originated in 3.

Slugma's placement kinda creeped me out as a kid.

Machinedramon was a supposed to be a cold and artificial monster devoid of anything that makes the monsters worth caring for other than pure battling. He was the v-pet without any of the necessary tender love and care you put into them. The point was to give Analogman a monster that reflects who he is and how he treats the digital monsters.

On the other hand, digital monsters, even the cute ones, were originally supposed to be truly "monstrous" and vicious.
Overtly dark themes like cybernetic reanimation reviving a battle damaged monster, the implication that battles could have such serious effects on your monsters, and from a design perspective the use of jagged edges, harsh black shadows, defined musculature, popping veins, wrinkly skin, gnarly fangs, etc. Even Agumon looks pretty monstrous, in the original art.
Pocket monsters were always designed to be more soft and huggable even in the later stages of evolution. Some of them looked cool, some of them looked cute, the old art style had a slight edge over the newer one but they were always supposed to be pretty cuddly. So a Pokemon like Machinedramon wouldn't make sense.
