I managed to reach that point by being fucking incredible, developing a rep, destroying whole teams on my own and then subsequently got invited into bigger and better squads until I reached the top.

Yeah I actually don't really like FPS at all - never played any COD game, for instance, but the coop and online community was incredible and I had the most fun playing that than really any game I can remember. Sitting up til 4am doing raids with a group of people having a laugh and a joke is what playing games should be all about in my opinion. That where the sales element comes in, I'd research a company before calling it, look at its competitors etc. then use that when making my first call.

A lot of it is through networking too. If I place someone into a company, I'll contact his old boss and then try and backfill his job etc. It's very heavily sales focused.

When I was going it alone I just undercut everyone else because my costs were so low. Also there are recruitment managers who you can have under the table deals with etc. but that's very risky to do.
