I was pleasantly surprised with the ai in botw, in regards with how they deal with sounds/looking around/investigating. I would like to see more aggressive combat decisions from them, though.

Developing a sense of self-preservation is an important aspect of sapient life, and the sensation of pain is the primary teacher of that. It can also be a foundation to developing empathy. Instead of some mechanical limiters, a robot that senses pain will work within limits so that it won't damage itself, and a more sophisticated robot could also learn to not harm other things by whatever the hell that NO function is.
