It wasn't supposed to be called Prey, that made their own game like Dishonored, but at the end of development Bethesda offered Arkane the Prey IP name after sitting on it (also after stealing it from Human Head). I'm sure the Arkane marketing sector pressured the Creative Lead to take the name on for increased $$$

Made for console players...

Small FOV...

Full of QTEs...

Full of text on the screen...

Combat and movement feels "plastic"...

Bad and boring story...

...

I really wanted to see the REAL Prey 2, with the bounty hunter in a city like Blade Runner. That would have been AMAZING.

Instead we got a shitty console game that still made money, because of some shady marketing tactics, and a dumb consumer base.

The only people who dislike this game are people who haven't even played it and were hoping for a real Prey sequel.

I agree that it shouldn't have been called Prey in the first place but it's actually a great game.

Still haven't beat it and I'm 20 hours in. The only complaint I have so far is the lack of guns but the alien powers more than make up for it
>>
>>378629029
you're wrong on half of those points objectively and as for the combat and story you have PLEN shit taste nigger
>>
>>378629029

I'm eight hours or so in and I'm pretty sure there hasn't been a single QTE.

Also the game is great so far, possibly the best LGS-wannabe since the original Deus Ex.
>>
How do I turn off individual elements of the HUD? Dishonored and Dishonored 2 had this feature, why the fuck doesn't Prey have it?
>>
>>378629384
I've encountered around 5 QTEs in 40 hours of gameplay, when a greater mimic jumps on your face and you have to fight it off.
>>
Game is 10/10
>>
>>378629384
Just lol at those kids born in 2006 that compare he game to Deus Ex or System Shock. You're too young to even know those games lmfao.

Of course you'll like it, because the only other games you played were Call of Duty, Far Cry Primal, Halo, or Gears of Wars... so as soon as something "different" comes out, it has to be good, right?

Pathetic console kids. Getting hyped for games because of marketing.

"Oh look, there's a Prey ad with some catchy Rihanna song playing on Youtube right before my video... I'm so pumped! Game looks good, gonna pre-order it, and then try to convince myself that it was a good purchase, even tho it wasn't"

Typical casual players in 2017. It's sad that this board is full of them.

I just got a patch for my PS4, looked at the patch notes....still no fix for the drifting

I submitted a ticket about this on day 1, bethesda customer service is great, they get back to you within 6 hours, they said it was a known issue and being worked on.

WTF has gone wrong with the gaming industry where they release buggy as fuck games.
I have not seen a AAA game in years be released without day 1 patches and full of bugs.

Damn I remember the days when only PC games ever got patched and that was 6 months down the line.
>>
>>378630730
Nobody said it did it have QTEs you dribbling tard we were disputing the fact that it was "full of QTEs" which it so clearly isn't
>>
>>378630726
nah, it was good

but I'm glad the sequel got scrapped because it looked like a bland park open world game with a literal who beanie protagonist, not a worthy sequel to a great fps with a unique native american protag
>>
>>378630386
Why are you always having greater mimics jumping on your face? Are you really that bad at the game that it becomes filled with these QTEs?

>>378630730
Your argument was that it's FILLED with QTEs. No one said it didn't have QTEs, only it isn't filled with them. Jesus Christ, I find the game to be a bore myself but you're goddamned stupid.
>>
>>378630825

Still puzzles the fuck out of me how, in a engine that does that 'looking glass' effect flawlessly, they couldn't do mirrors.

Plus even though the Prey branding was Bethesda's idea, it would have been neat if they could have included the wallwalking. At least in the zero-gravity sections.
>>
>>378630847
>>378630906

That's the whole point of my argument. It's all a question of perception based on how YOU play the game.

If you play it in a certain way, you won't see QTEs... if you play it in another way, you'll see plenty of them.

You might have missed them, but it doesn't remove the fact that the game is full of them.
>>
>>378631262
If you can play the game without encountering them, then it's hardly filled with QTEs anon.

how the fuck is mashing 1 button to get an enemy off of you a QTE.
It's like you miss the point of what a QTE is.
Shenmue was a game full of QTE's
this is just a game mechanic to get an enemy off of you.
Next you will say track and field is QTE;s because you have to mash buttons to run.

>>378631387

>but it doesn't remove the fact that the game is full of them.
It has to be a fact first. The game has nothing "QTE" besides the greater mimics. And you'd have to play really terrible to have the game be full of them.
>>
>>378631524
>You knew its Bethesda game
it's an Arkane game, a company whose games wre known for meticulous detail.
I played the demo and this issue was not there despite people saying there was input lag on PS4, which i did not experience.
>>
>>378628542
I loved the game. I went in completely blind, haven't seen a trailer, anything, didn't know what it was all about.
The start blew my mind and it scared the shit out of me. It actually took me a while to figure out that it was bioshock.
Loved the station, it was awesome.
The game was really fun for me, and it was moderately challenging for a couple of hours.
The amount of detail in regards to the activity of the station and the people that lived there is really good. All the relationships, activities, interests.
Gameplay can let you be very creative.
Loved the story and ending.
GOTY so far for me
>>

>>378631507
>has a PhD and still gets basic expressions wrong
Must have been social sciences or some shit. I honestly don't understand how you can equate a single type of 'QTE' (by your definition of a QTE, anyway) that can be avoided depending on how you play into the game being FILLED with them. Is a game FILLED with menus because you can press Start/Esc at any time and be greeted with a pause menu?
>>
>>378631521
That does look fuckin' annoying.
>>
>>378631521

It was so annoying in parts that I'd quit playing for awhile.

>known for meticulous detail

Lol.

That's why they released an unfinished Dishonored 2. And it took them 1 month after release to fix it. They don't even care, since they already made profit with all the pre-orders thanks to their marketing. They could have shipped you an empty box, and they would have still made money lol.

Dumb fucks.

I liked it, but it's not my kinda game. Too much textual exposition with emails etc. And the story was garbage.
>>
>>378630386

>>
>>378631882
Dishonored 2 has performance issues but it's solid, content-wise. It has an absurd amount of detail. Performance is ass and Arkane/Beth should be burned for using the shit engine and not bothering to patch the game.

it was annoying but the game is good, I got used to it and you just quickly press the opposite direction to stop it.
it only drifted left or right too.
Still they should have fixed it by now.

>>378631882
>That's why they released an unfinished Dishonored 2
There was virtually nothing wrong with dishonored 2 at all. 1 noticeable frame drop in the 2nd mission opening cutscene.
I suppose you are talking about hardware optimization on PC, which in of itself is not the games issue, it's not bugs, it;s drivers and hardware issues that are not solely the developers responsibility.
Again look at dishonored 1 and 2;s attention to detail, and PREY;s attention to detail.
this issue is an obvious programming issue though.

The poster you replied to. I played Thief and SS2 at release, SS1 and the Ultima Underworlds afterwards, I consider all these games to be among my all-time favorites. Almost all gaming done on a PC, though I keep a PS4 for some exclusives. Gaming has recovered a bit since the shitshow when everything went multiplat after 2002 or so. Deal with it.
>>
>>378631632
And who is Arcane owned by for last 7 years? Bethesda.
Same Bethesda thats infamous for refusing to do QNA, who refuses to send out review copies and which always rushesh products to release. Dishonored 2 release was a fucking disaster yet somehow Prey 2 was supposed to be different?
I have no sympathy for anybody who complains about Bethesda games being buggy, ether dont buy it or fuck off.

>performance issues out of the box
it doesn't have performance issues.
I never noticed frame drops, It has long load times which is to be expected for the amount of details. and screen tear which seems to be quite common on consoles now anyway ( with no vsync options available yet)
the drifting is the only main issue
>>

>>378632151
As much as the ending pissed me off, I'd play a Prey 2 for sure. The game was solid but the story needed some more finesse.
>>
>>378631975
Who cares if it has a good-story (btw it's not even good) if the game doesn't even run properly?

Having low FPS and stuttering is one thing...

But having your game crash out of nowhere, for no reason? People couldn't even save their game progress, lol.

Meticulous my ass. You just fell for their marketing videos they always post after the game is announced. All hos "dev diaries" where they bullshit and bullshit over and over.

"We always dreamed to make the new Prey game"

"We spent so much time researching infos on space ships and what they should look like"

"We are working really hard on this game, and its performance"

All bullshit. And you guys didn't notice the trend going on for so many years now. Lol.
>>
>>378632151

well with the sales figures not being too impressive combined with DH2s fiasco not even half a year earlier, I doubt Arkane will be pursuing Prey 2
>>
I watched videos, webms, streams of this game and nothing tells me that I should pick it up and play it immediately because it was so boring to watch and usually I get a an interest in a video game even after just watching it. >>378632595
Because there are mixed thoughts about this game, some people say it's GOTY and the holy grail of video games and others say it's boring. Also I don't really pirate recently released triple A games because it's a waste of time but then again if I do pirate it, i can play it without stake unlike the people who bought it so they have to justify the price they paid.

>>
>>378632813
The problem is that by watching videos, reviews, interviews, gameplay, etc. You ruin the game for yourself, especially with titles like this.
Pirating allows you to go in blind without loosing money if you end up not liking the game.

>>378631253
Looking glass stuff was low resolution or just plain textures. Mirrors in this day require a full resolution copy if the area you're in. We only had one gameplay vid to go off of, and that was early gameplay vid. We would have no idea what Prey 2 would've actually been like.
>>
>>378633081
Prey 2 would be dead no matter what because Beth pitched that game specificly to ruin and eat Human Gead. Stop getting your panties in a twist about what was never meant to be

>>
>>378633081
THIS.

The REAL Prey 2 is dead. We won't have the chance to play as a bounty hunter in a Blade Runner setting.

And regarding the current Prey, all the people are defending it to justify their poor purchase. They are teying to convince themselve. It's pathetic, and tou can see it after every release of Ubisoft games. Like The Divison... where everyone was like

"This is so good, it's gonna destroy WoW... it's such a good modern MMO... worth the price"

... then literally 1 month later, the game was dead and these hyped up kids were suddenly silent.

Same thing with Ghost Recon: Wildlands... have you seen a single thread about it here? Neither have I.

Kids are just trying to convince themselve that they made the right choice by paying 60 bucks for 6 hours of origina, content.

Rinse and Repeat.

The industry is falling because dumb kids--like 95% of this thread--are falling for some marketing-induced hype... and end up pre-ordering games.

They don't wait for reviews.

They don't wait to try the game first.

They don't care if the company in question is known to deliver unfinished games.

Obviously the devs won't bother making a good game, since they are already in the positive $$$ BEFORE the game was even released lol.

If you think Human Head studios would have been able to produce a game as ambitious as what Prey 2 was set to be you're sorely mistaken.

They have less than 30 employees and most of their games have been painfully mediocre. As much as I love the original Prey I think their concept for a sequel sounded terrible and they have failed to provide even one tangible piece of evidence that their work wasn't painfully mediocre at best (that one demo people keep linking was 99.9% scripted and pretty much just an early mock-up).

They had five to six years to make that game and did not manage to produce anything worthwhile. Do you honestly think six more years in development hell would have made it good ? No it fucking wouldn't have.
>>
>>378641805
I like the concept of an open world game focused on being a bounty hunter though. I hope someone takes up that shit and delivers a good game. Maybe RDR2 will have some pretty good bounty hunting shit.
>>
>>378628542

The ending makes every action and decision by the player utterly pointless and useless.
When I saw the ending it completely changed ym mind about a second playthrough, since my first playthrough was pure-human and I wanted to try the alien powers in the next one.

Other than that, the game was enjoyable. Dunno why people complain about it so much.
>>
>>378638534

You get A LOT of the "psy-potions" thingies. Almost everything other than mimics drops them pretty consistently.
>>
>>378642061
Maybe it's just bad circumstances but I can't think of a single game that set out to do bounty hunting and managed to make it legitimately compelling. It's usually the worst, most monotonous part of any game that has it.

If you want some examples here's games that let you go bounty hunting:
- Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
- Red Dead Redemption
- Assassin's Creed Syndicate
- Call of Juarez Bound in Blood
- Elite Dangerous
- Star Wars: Bounty Hunter
- The Witcher 3

There's ONE of those where bounty hunting legitimately is a fun activity. Hint: it's the one where each contract is written individually with its own quest, different outcomes and not just a single, repetitive framework reused ad verbatim on every single mission of the same type.

Typically it works better when your character being a bounty hunter is just a background story thing and the game is actually about something completely different (Call of Juarez: Gunslinger and Metroid being notable examples).

The game is just a big ethical trolley problem designed by Alex and co. in an attempt to undo what they have done, and what choices the player character made influence its ultimate empathy level, and will determine what kind of person/alium it will continue to be in the future, deciding the ultimate fate of Earth itself.

For anyone curious in trying the game out on PS4, I implore you to reconsider. I just finished it last night and the loading times become ridiculous towards the end. They all last around 1 minute and 20 seconds each, which isn't too bad at first when you're taking your time and exploring everything in an area, but it become nigh unbearable when you're constantly moving between areas in the late game.

Arkane is shit at console optimization. There's no reason why a game like this should have loading screens as long as The Witcher 3.

Also this game would have probably done much better if Bethesda didn't shoehorn Denuvo and refuse to give out review copies for their games.

There's no reason to keep the guy alive logically, is there? Are all the humans going to be like this where they all die anyway so you might as well benefit? Or does that make my a phycopath?
>>
>>378659364
It makes you a psychopath.

The whole story hinges on whether you are sympathetic or not despite the fact helping people is usually counterproductive if not detrimental
>>
>>378659545
And how exactly? You get lots of free stuff and some entertainment, like why won't i release the convict fuck if he wants to walk typhon infested territory that hard and get some loot from it or give those fucks their turrets and watch lots of typhon getting blown up while doing nothing

It's implied that they are. They still have typhon materials inside of them.

So even if they don't directly do anything, their overabundance may lead to the Typhon noticing it and going berserk on the human race, which is what happens when the Apex shows up

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOGu05q-Ch4

It's unclear how many neuromods need to be used before the Typhon catch wind. It could be that using more mods just make the Apex appear faster, but using one is all you need to get their attention.

The whole "soeket" buisness is what's keeping me from upgrading. Apparently my Extr3m3 G3N motherboard is so old that the i5 4k that I own is the best possible thing that can fit in there. At least that's what I've been told.

So if I want to upgrade I need to replace my whole motherboard, and who knows deep that rabbit hole goes. Will I need to replace my power box? My ram? what else do I need to replace because it no-longer "fits" in my new motherboard.

>Arkane is shit at console optimization

>>
>>378629258
>PC has exclusive key binds and shit

Scrolling should switch to next or previous item without opening the shitty console style weapon wheel.

Scrolling up, down and clicking MMB is literally the same action in game.
Why?

Time stops when you select weapons, so what is the point of using scroll if you can just move your mouse over the item end select it, it's faster anyway.

Can't use mouse wheel to scroll through emails.

Assigning two functions to one button when you click it or hold it is also inconsistent, looting, deploying turrets, lifting things, can't rebind that.

Interacting with screens is also retarded. Prey from 2006 had it better, when you point at the screen you just M1 and it interacts, in 2017 you have to zoom or use the interact button. I'm constantly hitting the screens with my wrench, you never have to shoot while looking at the screen, i haven't encountered monitor mimics in the game and even if they were they change back as soon as you look at them so it wouldn't matter.
When you zoom you are locked to a specific position but not rotation so you still rotate the camera and the pointer is in the place of your reticle. Why not lock your camera position as well and use the mouse like on desktop the way Deus Ex Human Revolution did it.

Also hacking QTE should only use directional prompts plus the interacting, jumping and crouching buttons, I use custom mouse buttons for some of the actions in game and when hacking I can't tell which button to press.
