V is full of useless crap that makes it too trashy. And the fact that you have like 3 different characters doesn't make you get into it. The graphics are nice tho, but that's it.

Vice city was my least favorite

GTA SA is the only 3d GTA game to embrace the gang aspect of the game, which was amazing in the first ones especially in GTA 2.

For that reason only, I will hold SA as the ultimate GTA until Rockstar goes back to it's roots.

I started to play GTA V last night for the first time. I was saving for the PC version, but I got the xbox 360 version for free so I'm playing it for now. So far it's been pretty good, but everything feels very "arcade" compared to GTA IV. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but coming from GTA IV it's pretty weird how the cars no more control like boats and how the shooting is not as "meaty" as in IV.

I still think San Andreas is the best GTA. GTA V may have all the technology, ragdoll physics, crazy super huge world, but San Andreas just has that special soul that makes games instant classics.

Because Liberty City in GTA 3 has this dark, rainy and foggy atmosphere. It just feels amazing. No other game had an atmosphere that made me feel somehing like GTA 3 did.

IV really just felt like a test of the game engine and to see if they could get away with a more "serious" story. Then when they saw they could they decided they were going to go for "mature" themes and drama because they're too serious for the silly shit the previous games had any more. Despite the fact there's still plenty of silly shit that fucks up the overall tone of the game.

But now with V being more online focused I wouldn't be surprised if the next GTA is Online 2, 3, whatever number they're on now rather than GTAVI and that's all we'll get from now on.

Saints Row is dead but even when it was getting games I felt they went too far with the silly shit. Don't get me wrong, I do like the games. I just want something like GTA that hit that same middle ground between whacky as hell Saints Row and "serious" current GTA.

I remember when I saw GTA 3 gameplay for the first time. It fucking blew my mind how you controlled your character like in Tomb Raider, but way more smoother. At first I didn't like the new camera angle after years of playing the classic GTA games, I though the character was way too hard to control in third person, moving character with keyboard in 2 dimensions while rotating the camera with mouse was way over my head even though it played pretty similar to first person shooters.

I liked the top down view much better, it seemed more logical.

Because out of all the games it was the largest leap compared to the game that came before it. Sure VC and SA added a lot of features and refinements to 3's formula but they were more like just steps compared to 3 while 3's advancements is jumping a tall building in a single bound compared to 2.

Well it's heck of a more than San Andreas has going on. GTA V feels alive with all the pedestrians on the streets, customers walking in and out of shops, street sweepers etc. San Andreas is mostly notorious for the mysteries. GTA V has hikers in the mountains, hitchhikers on the highways, and all the other type of people you'd expect to see in places like that. San Andreas is mostly a ghost town which gives it this eerie feeling, and the imagination of the players fill the rest.

All that is just a matter of technology improving to be honest. While there is more going on in V due to TECHNOLOGY it starts to feel bland and fake really fast. It's like driving in a blowup world.
San Andreas had less going on but it managed to pull me a lot more with it's atmosphere. And this isn't nostalgia talking, I replayed it a few months ago on my tablet and it managed to immerse me more than V after 15 minutes of playing.

SA was good because you could find items in backalleys. You could explore and always come up win interesting things. I remember once, I was doing some Parkour and trying to reach some skyscraper... then there was a message saying "wtf are you doing here" on the wall.

Gta V has things to do, but it's all boring as hell. And the multiple characters don't create a link between you and the game.

Did people actually have trouble withe the san andreas train mission? I had no trouble with that one when I played SA for the first time, and only recently I found out that the mission is a meme because of it's insane difficulty.

Drop dead easy, all you have to do is to hug the other side of the train tracks, and if you dont kill them before the end of the tunel theres a dirt path that tou can jump to get on top of the train, altough that is riskier.

Does anyone else feel like the GTA V controls on console are kind awkward? All those d-pad holding commands are pretty confusing during action.

It had the most immersive map. The way it was laid out really gave it the feeling of an actual state. The rise from nothing to the top also felt more like a journey as a result. Everything felt so much grander because of how believable the world was.

No, not at all. I fucked it up the first time because I tried to jump the bike on top of the train, but I actually found it very easy.

The only real difficulty I had with the game, barring the unpatched Zero missions, was the Driving School. I know most people complain about the Flight School, but I found that to be extremely easy whereas the Driving School was a nightmare to get Gold in.

Taking into account first person mode, I'd say that GTA V is objectively the best GTA game. I go through phases of replaying the older games and of course I absolutely love them but the advancements of V do blow the others out of the water.
