Not that anon, and I haven't played WoW in years so I can't say if it's still like it, but you used to level up your weapon skills by hitting an enemy.

>>
>>378628134
Yes. Though most of the wacky ones on that list are from Tides of Destiny/Oceans, which is quite a polarizing game since it's more combat and adventure and less farming. Still a fun game though.

https://www.gamefaqs.com/wii/610925-rune-factory-tides-of-destiny/faqs/69033

I heard there is a mod/edit for Frontier that removes the Rune shit if you are interested. Or just play 3-4 since they are the best.

Do you think leveling by doing is a good system? I think it is as long as you don't have leveled enemies that will fuck you over if you don't level combat skills.
>>
>>378627040
It was true in vanilla WoW: you had to train your weapon skills by using them to increase your hit chance with those weapons, which is exactly how Daggerfall, Battlespire, and Morrowind worked.
>>
>>378629294
I think leveling by doing is good, yes. I don't really feel very strongly either way about level scaling enemies. It can work well and allow more exploration, but it can also make it feel like there's no enemies you have to get stronger for, as they'll be roughly equal to you no matter how strong you are.
>>
>>378629598
Do you really think bandits all wearing super special armor from Hell once you're level 20 is a good thing?
>>
>>378629598
Scaling enemies are bad just because it makes every encounter bland and scaling enemies have a tendency of having the system be shit if you level up non-combat skills. I don't know why anyone would level up any skills that have anything to do with money in the elder scrolls games though seeing as the only worthwhile asset you get with money is potions since quest items completely outclass items you can buy.
>>
>>378626528
Oblivion's leveling system is probably the most broken one I have ever had the displeasure to experience. The fact that you NEED to min-max and that you need to choose minor skills in the beginning as the skills you actually want to use, not the major ones baffles me. Todd really outdid himself in Oblivion.
>>
>>378629746
>>378629770
If there's nothing else that would be strong enough to challenge you, then I think it works well enough. It's silly in Elder Scrolls because there's no reason for the bandits to have that stuff, but if it there were an in-game explanation for why the world gets more dangerous as time passes it could work really well I think.
>>
>>378629294
I like it since it melds naturally with how you are currently playing the game and often removes/negates the traditional set class system, which is pretty much always a good thing. However Morrowind and Oblivion fucked it up 100% with their retarded attribute system making the entire thing just boring and tedious. They should have done it more like Daggerfall where attributes can be distributed freely.

Though there is a certain charm in putting in points into stuff and see you get better that you don't usually get.

>>378629746
You don't have to do it that way. I think Morrowind did it fairly well(think Skyrim did a similar thing as well), where the actual enemies aren't being leveled, it's just that new enemy types start spawning when you are higher levels.
So you still have all the low level bandits you can now one shot, but now you also have a few stronger bandit rapists along with it.

I agree, I hate the Major Minor min/max thing in Oblivion and I think unmodded Oblivion is a ridiculously tedious game because of it. I even prefer Skyrim's system desu
>>
>>378629942
Well not just that but it also works the other way around, these super mega ultra (mini)bosses are cannon fodder unless if you turn the difficulty to some ridiculous level which only means that since you do almost no damage to enemies combat just becomes kiting central. The issue with inconsistent difficulty is further amplified by the ridiculously unbalanced skilltrees in vanilla TES games where some skilltrees are hilariously broken and some are downright useless (the most extreme example being lockpicking in oblivion where literally the entire skilltree can be bypassed with a single item making all of the progression pointless).

>RPG

>>378626528
Silent Storm.

It's not very well designed though, it's pretty easy to level up your shooting skill because you shoot enemies all the time but leveling your medical skill or some other non-combat skill is impossible unless you use mods.

>>
>>378627215
Surprisingly not shit though. It's kind of clunky and looks like ass but there's actual gameplay in there. For a game that came out around the time of DayZ that's kind of impressive.
>>
>>378630116
>the most extreme example being lockpicking in oblivion
Wasn't much better in Skyrim either. In my 500+ hours of playing I have never once put a single point into lockpicking.

>>
>>378630528
I'm lucky enough to not have gotten that far in terms of progression. They're adding a dune buggy though so hopefully they're gonna do that right.
>>
>level up by doing it
>ever good
Morrowind/oblivion version is especially trash because you can straight up ruin your save file. I remember being a kid I just leveled up to the max level right away and you get completely fucked doing that.
>>
>>378630661
It wouldn't be so bad if the scaling was intelligent in some way. Have a weighting to the skills to determine how much they would affect the scaling. If I max out athletics/acrobatics there's no reason I should be getting attacked by minotaurs, whereas if I max a bunch of combat skills straight away then yeah, turn the challenge up. This doesn't make scaling 'good' in any way, but marginally less shit.
>>
>>378630607
it will likely suffer from the exact same issue. It is an alpha though.

The bike travels too fast to load the environment properly even on a good rig. they have recently teased loading things from greater distances though so maybe that'll help
>>
>>378630661
Scaled enemies and level by doing are not mutually inclusive

>>378630835
Scaling should also apply to areas separately (it actually might in some bethesda games I can't remember)
Le dungeon of eternal hell should actually scale less with level because it should always be hard.
Same for Le Mineshaft of common criminals. It shouldn't feel hard if I'm a master swordsman in end game armor.
Right outside a town the enemies should be a moderate challenge at first but seem weak at the end while out in the wilderness could fully scale with level. So at level 1 with my rusty sword I encounter crappy bandits in shit and at level 99 I encounter demi-gods.
That would require effort tho
>>
Enemies getting stronger from level scaling in vanilla Oblivion wasn't an issue for me because I mastered conjuration and the Storm Atronach would rape everything regardless of how strong they are.

>>378630975

Thats just the fact that its very flat on combat content. Its a feature.
It also means you appriciate the first power spikes, as you grow from a nobody until a somebody, and into a GOD.

Once you completely run out of stuff to do, and the only thing left is to track down the trainers to reach 100 in everything, thats one of the best parts of the game.
>>
>>378631120
When I was like 12 I always played thief and oblivion straight dicks you if you don't go warrior or mage.

Wow 4x sneak attack on bow at 100 archery with the best arrows and enchantments. 4x nothing is nothing.

Hah. If you git gud enough at the lockpicking minigame, you don't even need the item. I can pick everything in Oblivion and never run out of picks just by getting them naturally as loot.

Yes, I probably put too much time into what amounts to a mediocre game, but I don't really regret it.
>>
>>378627282
People who control their leveling; oblivions level scaling completely fucked and actually using all your major skills left you seriously underpowered at ~level 15 and beyond
