Flagship era felt good too, if I recall. Though they had their own issues.

Kumazaki isn't as outright swimming through molasses as Shimomura but everything feels weirdly delayed in a way that even the Shimomura stuff doesn't. Like Shimomura stuff it feels like, yes, everything is slow, it's meant to be that way good or bad. The Kumazaki games feel like they want to be as fluid as Super Star or the Flagship games but they can't quite make it work in 3D.

I like the Shimomura games well enough, but in general the Super Star formula for Copy Abilities just works better which is why the series drew from it more as it went on, and all three Shimomura games have issues with just being really fucking slow, Kirby 64 being the worst about it.

Flagship is Amazing Mirror and Squeak Squad. Nightmare in Dream Land is in the same engine as well, but you can't clear-cut that as well to a specific "era" or group/director if you wanna do that.

Squeak Squad is really short, the bosses are abnormally easy even for Kirby, and the level design doesn't really have anything memorable about it. The only things to really like about it are the shared engine, spray paints which are a carry over from AM, the Animal power up which desperately needs to come back and be fleshed out, and the Squeaks themselves. Maybe the bubble inventory system.
