The only people that say TF2 is a waste of money were the ones that originally paid 10 bucks or bought the orange box. I can understand leaving TF2 because it went free and has microtransations(which I would argue it it isnt p2w), I also understand people that left due to paints/the wierd hats, but I will never understand people that left because they thing its gotten worse gameplay wise, if anything most weapons are sidegrades at most and have downsides and the game is still really fun and mostly balanced. They never mention 40 reserve stickies/rocket launchers/30 reserve grenade launcher/long backstab/no airblast/glitch backstabs.

No, just the type of community servers that /v/ specificially likes are dead. Community servers are still very much alive and make up 50% of the playerbase.

Community servers are now mostly Surf maps, Jump maps, MGE/Deathmatch practice maps, Freak Fortress/Versus Saxton Hale mod, Deathrun mod, Jailbreak mod, trade servers, 24/7 versions of regular maps (which make up the biggest portion), and community competitive servers for Highlander, 6s, 4s, Ultiduo and Bball

As Overwatch, CoD, and CS:GO have shown us, putting a paywall on your game does not improve the community in any noticeable way. All it really means is less people to play against.
