It had great structure and dynamic until then, the MC suffering through all sorts of absurd madness and being increasingly unable to keep reality and madness separate, and the detective to keep things grounded and hint to the fact that there is some method to the madness.

It would have been great if it all resolved itself as a kind of detective novel along the lines of Umineko/Higurashi, and not "hey check out all this magic bullshit that we introduce right near the end, doesn't really resolve anything and everything gets fixed by some bombastic showdown with a villain that had no real presence in the story"

For me the story died with the detective, as that ended all hope that this would have a rational conclusion.

Depends on route desu. IIRC Moro, Gakutou, and Capt stop showing up in any meaningful capacity in Wanko's route, although Gen and Hideo pick up the slack.

Depends on the theme of the VN itself. More serious VN usually don't have waifus or harems in it. Definitely not 99%.
What irks me is that romance VN usually doubles as friendship simulator, yet the only friends showed in this kind of VN are usually other romanceable heroines, or only 1 hopelessly useless male. Usually it improves as the VN involves more drama in it, but I don't want nakige drama bullshit twist in my friendship simulator like anything from KEYshit.

There are some though with balanced male/female dynamics if I dig deeper, but we need more of friendship simulator with actual friends and not harems.

Well the point is that even if they aren't harems, the selling point is waifus even if it has a fleshed out story (F/SN, MLA). And if it's NOT waifus, it's probably a different type of genre instead of a SoL where there's no sense for there to be a male friend in the cast anyways (Muramasa).

VNs as a medium are still incredibly juvenile and focus on sexy/cute girls to sell. Only the biggest franchises like Type Moon have been able to get away from that and even then Nasu still uses waifus as a big selling point in his stories.

The production team had the great idea to live stream a prank where they had all the voice actors come in but also invited a rookie va. The rookie was told that he was going to voice act a character for the show. The rookie was led on through out the whole stream until they finally revealed that it was a lie and that there was no character for him to voice act. The rookie took this hard and there a screen cap with him on his knees in the middle of the stage. It doesn't help that the other VA, who were big names, were laughing at the rookie. The anime ended up being boycotted but the big name VA are still finding work while the rookie still doesn't have much luck.

Male friends are always makes sense to exist in SoL because there is no fucking way in normal life that a male could only be friends with only females and nobody else unless he's being gay or effeminate, which romance SoL MC has none of it. And since most romance SoL is also doubles as friendship simulator, there is no reason to neglect the 'friendship' part as part of wish fulfillment that the VN offers because most of us never have any meaningful friends regardless of gender..

I don't ask male friends to be dominant and relevant all the time, after all when the player enters a heroine route, that heroine is supposed to get the spotlight after all, but I want the male friends to have just enough presence to exist within the route and not instantly forgotten, like the friends congratulates the MC when he become a couple with the heroine that he choose with the friends saying something like "Finally, what took you so long to confess to her?", or even help MC solving his trouble when the drama comes.

This is the fucking worst. I hate NTR of all kinds, but at least I can avoid VNs specifically advertised as focusing on NTR. Sneaking it up on people as shock value just feels plain malevolent. Those kind of surprises are exactly what people are trying to avoid when they seek out romance in fiction.

Why does NTR feel so much realer to me than anything else?
I never had a woman treat me unfair in any way and yet virtual women feel so much realer when they NTR me.
