What games from this genre are good?
I think Risk of Rain is pretty well regarded around here. Anything else?
My favorite is Nuclear Throne!

i love them and they piss me off so much. it's like a gambling addiction
>oh man i lost the last 20 but remember that one time i got this item and that item and they worked together sooooo well
FTL was pretty good when I played it.
I don't get this genre, it makes me frustrated and rage.
The only way I can play them is if I can save scum or even backup my save file to get around the really unfair random events.

This right here, though the Rebel Flagship is literally a case of Fuck You if you don't have the right weapons.
>make it through 6 sectors of shit
>decked out with a bunch of kickass lasers and missiles
>just barely survive first encounter with flagship
>repair and head into round 2
>missiles are fucking useless because loldrones
>can't shoot fast enough to disable shields and cause damage
>battle becomes a slog towards death
Also apparently if you kill all the people on board, the ship has its own AI that runs the ship even more efficiently.

One Way Heroics is kinda hard to get into, but it's really good once you get used.
There are two of them - original one and Mystery Chronicle. Original is regarded as better one, since it's cheaper, doesn't require Twitter for online functions and has bigger playerbase. Mystery Chronicle is a remake by Spike Chunsoft, which brought pretty cool new classes from their other games and not as cool feature from Shiren the Wanderer.
Honestly, they're mostly the same, and while Mystery Chronicle includes all content from original OWH and also adds plenty of its own content, for some reason it doesn't include content from OWH+, expansion pack for the original game.
i like necrodancer and nuclear throne. compared to most games, they have way less focus on the metagame unlocking part, and more balanced items so it's more time enjoying the gameplay and less crossing your fingers for something good to RNG its way to you.
>pirate everspace
>get through the tutorial sector
>start going around some asteroids in the second area of the next sector, just looking for shit to mine and see which civilian ships I can interact with
>suddenly 3 hostile capital ships warp in with fighter escorts and assrape me without any chance of fighting back or running away
yeah good game
