Nothing about Culver's seemed very good to me. Their fried chicken ( to a southerner like me ) was not very good, and their burgers, while passable, were very expensive. A&W is simple, but everything is delicious. A papa burger, fried cheese curds and a Coke is one of my pinnacle of fast food meals.

You have to remember, I didn't grow up with A&W in the south, and after moving back down south, A&W just sticks out in my mind as something I miss about living up north.

I love fried chicken, we really don't have a lot of good places to get it here. I used to make fried cheese curds from scratch though. When you get em absolutely day-of made fresh curds and fry them same day it's amazing. But the A&W I live near tends to make their stuff pretty fresh so when I get a papa burger or their fries it's usually really fresh.

High altitude makes every staircase a work out for your average lard-ass so you have to work extra hard to be fat. The state doesn't have a beer / food culture like most of the south or the midwest that encourages eating and drinking with friends / family as a major past time. Instead you smoke a bowl, hit some trails, run around with your 3 dogs, and if it's the winter time you board or ski.

The trade off is that the state is full of assholes, things are needlessly expensive because it's in the middle of fucking nowhere, you need a 4x4 to have any kind of worth as an individual, and it does lack that cozy charm of some of the lowland states.
