It has good gameplay and good overworld survival where the machines feel like a constant threat.

It's my honest opinion m8. Ranged combat is actually really fun and the machines are fun to fight as well. And I might have praised Aloy but that's because she's literally the only decent character in the game, everyone else is shit. It's a solid 7/10 I guess.
The main problem with Horizon is that it pales in comparison to other great releases this year like Nioh, BotW, Nier, Yakuza and Persona.
