I'm very interested in the potential of video games as a medium to tell a good story, but most video game writing is complete trash, to the point where generic, shitty writing is pretty much the norm. Video games are so completely behind other mediums in telling a good story, that recommending someone read a book over playing a video game, if they want to experience a good story, is pretty much what anyone should do.

I remember when I was younger, I thought that I cared about story in video games much more than I actually did. I tried, I really did. I tried playing a bunch of JRPGs that shoved their stories down the player's throat, but I ended up hating that shit, because it got in the way of playing the game. That shit is intrusive as hell. It's not even just story in video games, it's storytelling period; almost no one knows how to tell a fucking story in a video game. More and more did I find myself gravitating towards games that were less focused on story and more on actually being a game, with deep, rewarding gameplay in some way. It's very rare that I end up liking a game's story and whenever I do, it's one of those rare breeds of games that tell its story, but not at the detriment of the gameplay, like Wonderful 101 or No More Heroes.

I'm pretty sure all games started out as tests of concept, like no sane dev would literally start with the tutorial and ends with the final boss, they will have mock graphics and placeholders like sensible people and work on everything a little bit at a time. I laugh when games increase their price after they get out of early access, you basically have to pay an idiot tax for refunding after you already pay them to be their beta tester, assuming you ever want to play the game now that it is good anyway.

TLOU for me was a very generic western video game that told a slightly different story to the norm, which is why people lapped it up in droves. I actually do like Shattered Memories for what it is. The good aspects of it make it even more enraging how badly designed some of it is though. Two easily fixable flaws prevent it from being genuinely great.

I know that's why most people like it, but I'd like to think some people have more sensible reasons to like it. I liked Infinite more than 1&2, but I fully see why fans of the series were disappointed in it. It's nothing like the other games. I also never saw any of the trailers, I picked it up sometime last year, so I never got into any of the hype for it. When I played it I was specifically looking for a shooter game with color instead of washed out gray. I also liked Elizabeth as a character, and just having a partner. I like games that give me a partner or team, and I'm not just alone in it. But I definitely see why Bioshock fans are upset.

I don't think this is true at all and I know because I was 16 when the first episode came out. They're not realistic, likable, interesting or engaging.

I don't know much about music so I'm not going to call it objectively bad, but it did all sound very forgettable to me and I never noticed it elevating any scenes at all. Sounded like the kind of music that would play in the background of a commercial for cereal or insurance or something.

Disagreed again, I never actually finished it, I stopped it at the fourth episode because I just didn't care. I didn't care enough about the characters to want to solve the mystery for them, there didn't seem to be anything clever or intriguing about the mystery, nothing that drew me in and me wonder, it was just dull. The ends of episodes didn't have good hooks either, except for the one with cripple Chloe which just ended up being a massive disappointment, right when I thought something even remotely interesting would happen for a change.

It is a good game. Perhaps not a great Metroid as it streamlines progression way too much, gave Samus a prominent voice and brought Adam into the mix - pretty much everything needed for Other M to fuck everything up was established in Fusion - BUT Fusion in and of itself was a quality handheld action adventure. Easily one of the GBA's best games in its own right.
