What am I in for?

Borderlands loot and incredible disappoint if you are expecting a Souls style game.

Great combat taking place in mostly boring looking levels and shitty Diablo loot.
A good game despite its flaws.

Seconding this. The game is fundamentally tight and well made, however it never seems to settle on if it wants to be realistic or fantastic. The enemy types are varied in concept, but in design boil down to "this demon uses an axe and this demon uses a sword". The loot is bar none the worst aspect of the game, and thankfully min-maxing isn't necessary. I'd suggest just collecting everything and swapping out equipment only when you progress to a new region.

DLC is a must; Date Masamune and Lady Maria of the Spanish Clocktower are excellent fights, as well as the Odachi being one of the most fun weapons in the game. The fights only happen at the end of the vanilla game, but you can find odachis from the start.

Overall I give it an B+. Really good game but has some flaws that prevent from being truly great.
