I have one like that and I honestly prefer the regular Death Blow + Drag Back build. There isn't much she kills in quads that she can't kill in doubles and it tanks her defenses. Also, drag back is pretty fun and it helps out a lot in getting her out safely or bringing another unit closer to the team so they can finish it off.

To be honest, the build gives better survivability than the brave axe, because the +4 speed and the absence of brave axe -5 speed penalty will make sure that he won't get doubled by everything that's not Sophia, but it won't be enough to double anyone so his raw damage will be severely reduced, and sword users usually still have enough speed to double him anyway, and mages don't even need to double to kill him.
